OBC question

I know this has been discussed and cussed but I don't see a clear answer to my question. I may have missed it, but I have searched!

We are getting quite a bit of obc (500 per room). I don't see us spending that much.

Can we withdraw some of it at the casino?

I'm sure I have read that none of it will be refundable? It is ncl obc and travel agent obc, oh and latitudes obc.

Thanks!

I'm no expert, but I think it depends. On our cruise in January on the Sun we had OBC and when we asked for a printout at what I would used to call the purser's desk, it showed up as "non refundable" so we had to use it or lose it. $100 of it was from Tropicana and the rest was from the on line TA. Hope this helps. Wasn't as much as you have so we didn' have a problem using it with the tips and bar bill.

Id say to do the next cruise deposit to help get rid of some. It will cut out $150 on each room because of the extra 100 you get. You can get money out of your onboard account in the casino. Id immagine you just sign the paperwork to borrow the money on your account and the OBC you already have applied would go towards it. After all the casino will prob make most of it back.

You can go to the cashiers cage in the casino, and get casino chips w/ your on board credit. Of course you will have to have a credit card set up (on your room account). Then just dont spend as much as you OBC and when you settle your bill at the end of the cruise, you should be even, minus whatever other charges you entail.

Just be aware that there is a 3% charge on the money you take from the cage.

Doesn't this depend on the ship? Last I saw (based on first-hand reports here on CC), the 3% fee was being charged on the Sky, Pearl and the Gem. Is it fleetwide at this point?

Is it a 7-day cruise? 500 could cover your DSC, drinks, specialty dining, maybe a spa treatment, an excusrsion, gift shop purchases. Someone else said to purchase a next cruise certificate and that is a good value, but also gives you an additional 100 OBC so you would have an additional amount to monitor.

Yes, it's a 7 day cruise. I don't drink (I bring my own coke). I do buy one or two sodas, but that is it. I'll have 3 kids with me (12, 11 & 4 yrs old). They don't care for the kids club, they like the pool. They don't like the specialty dining at all (we went to Cagney's for lunch one day. None of us liked it). We will stick with the Market Cafe for eating :) I book our excursions separately. We don't plan on a lot of excursions, just play it by ear.

Depending on how that cruise is going we may get a FCC. On our last cruise my bill at the end was just over $300 (I think). So $500 is quite a bit to spend.

Thanks everyone.

I don't mind paying the 3% to get it out at the casino as long as I can do it that way.

2 adults and 3 kids = daily service fee of $60/day or $420 for the week. You won't have any trouble spending your $500. Enjoy!

Actually one adult and 3 kids. My parents are in the room next door with the same amount of obc ( I just double check we are getting $700 obc each room). They have the same problem. Mom will do a spa day, they might eat once in a specialty restaurant. Dad does some gambling. So dad will use their obc in the casino if he can :)

OK not sure if I would word this as a "problem" :). But I'm sure if your OBC is not going to be eaten up by what you would normally spend it on for a vacation. Your Mom as the right idea with go ahead and splurge with a spa day, it's on the house!;)

Since you have so much in OBC, give the specialty restraurants another try. By January, Moderno should be one of the offerings. Or try the teppanyaki place. Great food and a good show. Kids love it!

If the OBC is non-refundable, buy yourself a gift in the jewelry shop.

BTW, on day 6 of our recent Pearl cruise we had a negative balance. We had prepaid our DSC and had some OBC (nothing near $700! - you must be in the GV :p). You CAN enjoy a cruise without spending lots of out of pocket $$$.

I wish we were in the GV, O how I wish!! Penthouse suites (one with balcony, one without).

We have 300 obc from ncl, 300ish from travel agent, and 150 from latitudes (somehow that I don't understand. I just know NCL tells me it is there).

I do plan on hitting the gift shop. I bought two rings on there last time. I love them.

Thanks everyone for the help!
