Rotterdam Questions

Hi all! Will be sailing the rotterdam july 12th for the 21 day with my daughter (soon to be 18). I have just a few questions I didn't find answers to in my research:

1. Anyone stayed in an HH obstructed view? Opinions?

2. Drinking age on the ship?

3. I saw in a video of the ship that there's a large screen outside by the pool - do they show movies on this screen or at an inside theater? I love movie watching.

4. Does the casino get lively? And around what time in the evening is it usually 'happening'. I know it varies with each cruise; but trying to gauge the ship's 'bedtime'.

TIA!

I once stayed in an HH on the Rotterdam. It had all the features of an outside cabin, except for the view. The superstructure of the ship was across the promenade from my window. If I looked to the right I could see the sea, sky, everything anyone with a full view could see.

The cabin was very far forward, so it got a little bumpy in the 45' seas.

2. Drinking age on the ship?

The drinking age is 21, and it is strictly enforced. There can be a huge fine if you are caught purchasing liquor for an underage passenger.

Ruth C,

We have never met, but I admire your posts. I am on the ms Amsterdam 2012 World Voyage. Can you state your opinion of the K Inside Cabin that stands alone on the Lower Promenade Deck towards the bow? And should I ask beforehand for a fan to be placed in my room? To whom should I say at the outset that I don't want to "tip" every time I have room service even though I might well tip over the amount routinely charged at the end of the voyage?

Let me start by saying that I haven't been in that cabin. It looks to be like the odd-shaped cabin 2619, that I love dearly, though. If so, there is plenty of floor space. It's larger than other insides.

The cabin is a little further forward than I care for. I was in 3315 once (on the equivalent Rotterdam), and it got bumpy in hugely rough seas. It's also a long-ish walk from the aft.

Not the best location, but not the worst, either.

And should I ask beforehand for a fan to be placed in my room?

Without knowing if you'll need it or not? I wouldn't do that. I would keep it in mind, though, and ask for one quickly if I found I needed it. There are not sufficient fans for everyone.

If you don't wish to tip for room service, simply don't tip when your tray is delivered. That's all there is to it.
