sandian Posted May 5, 2011 #1 Share Posted May 5, 2011 I believe the cost of a taxi from the Vatican to the Colloseum is about 10 Euros. Can you tell me if this is per person or per cab please. Thank you
Rare cruisemom42 Posted May 5, 2011 #2 Share Posted May 5, 2011 That is an estimate per cab, but it is metered so the actual fare will depend on where exactly you are picked up and dropped off, route of the driver, traffic, etc. If you pick up a cab from the Vatican museum, expect it to be more as it is further away from the Colosseum than St. Peters basilica. D4 Posted May 5, 2011 #3 Share Posted May 5, 2011 There is also a base charge (probably almost 3 euros) before the meter starts. Also if you don't grab a cab at a taxi stand and get one via a phone call, the meter starts running from wherever they are when they come to get you. euro cruiser Posted May 5, 2011 #4 Share Posted May 5, 2011 D4 almost nailed it - it's Euro 2,80 base fare (weekdays during the day - rates are much higher on Sundays and at night). The city of Rome has it spelled out (in English) in a link on their web site here: http://www.viviromaintaxi.eu/index-eng.php
sandian Posted May 5, 2011 Author #5 Share Posted May 5, 2011 I cant believe how helpful you all are. We will probably be at the Bassillica but going to do the Colloseum first and then walk back viewing all the sights as we go. We are limited for time or we would walk both ways. Thanks again
mtnmusic Posted May 5, 2011 #6 Share Posted May 5, 2011 On our last HAL cruise we caught the Regionale Train in Civitavechia and puchased round trip tickets to Rome for 8 euros. The tickets included all bus and subway transportation for the day as well. We got off at Roma Ostinse Station, walked two blocks to Roma Lido-Pyramido Metro station and the rode to the second stop at Metro Colosseo. At the Palantine Hill ticket office we got combo tickets for Colosseum, Palatine Hill and Roman Forum. Afterwards, we caught a bus to the Paladium and after lunch and a visit to Trevi Fountain we caught another bus to visit Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St. Peters. Afterwards we walked several blocks to Roma S. Pietro Station where we boarded the Regionale train back to Civitavecchia, arriving 1 1/2 hours before the ship departed. It was a flawless way to see "Rome in a Day" and our total transportation cost from the cruise port and back was just 8 euros per person.
