Post Captain Posted May 5, 2011 #1 Share Posted May 5, 2011 Those many former passengers of the QE2 who miss the great old girl and who have been wondering what has become of her during the last few years as she has languished in Dubai will be happy to learn that she remains in very good shape. Rob Lightbody, a Scottish ship enthusiast who runs a website called The QE Story, was able to arrange a visit to the vessel in late April--apparently the first such visit allowed since Cunard turned the QE2 over to Nahkeel in November 2008. Mr. Lightbody explored the ship from top to bottom, stem to stern, and documented his visit in a series of videos posted on his website and on YouTube. These videos provide glimpses of virtually all the public rooms as well as several cabins, corridors, stairwells, and exterior decks. http://www.theqe2story.com/forum/index.php/topic,3166.0.html or http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=A6A6B24FAA1DE8C7 The BBC has reported on this visit, and the Maritime Matters website also includes a report with photos. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-13265118 http://maritimematters.com/2011/05/qe2-meets-theqe2story/ Apart from the removal of her artwork and ship models, she looks very much as I remember her from my last time aboard in 2008. Thanks to Rob for his report and for sharing his tour of the ship via video.
JimandStan Posted May 11, 2011 #2 Share Posted May 11, 2011 Amazing! It looks like she could sail tomorrow. If only the QE1 had had the same support after she retired........
