Flight at 2:45 out of San Juan

Recommended Posts

We're on a B2B on Serenader of the Seas June 5, but our DS is only on for the first week. We'd like for him to see some of OSJ with us in the morning before heading to the airport. We've purchased the ship transport, so I don't know if he'll just have to head to the airport and sit for hours or if there's some way he can delay his transport. I certainly don't mind paying for a taxi to the airport, but what would he do with the luggage?

All the taxis at the port know to take people going to OSJ to a restaurant called Barachino. They will store your luggage for free (plus tip). Not sure though what time they open. With a 2:45 flight time plan to leave OSJ about 3 hours ahead due to traffic and check-in & security time at airport. So you won't have much time in OSJ unless you get off ship very early. Traffic in OSJ is beyond gridlock and it can take an hour to just get out (let alone in) especially on weekends. So if you got off ship and retrieved luggage by 9am figure to be in OSJ by 10am (maybe get lucky and earlier). Store luggage (might have to haul a couple blocks). So ti might be 10:30 by then. Backing three hours off 2:45 is 11:45 so you would have 45 minutes to look around.

When you get to airport be sure to go the the ag inspection before checking in for flight. No bags can be checked without an inspection sticker on them. Many people waste time in the check-in line only to be sent for the inspection and then have to stand in line again.

We had a 6pm flight in February and through it was sort of rushed but did get to go out to El Morro as well as have lunch at Barachino.

Edit to add if the ship transport will check-in the bags to the flight then that would help a lot. You can also walk out of OSJ to somewhree closer to the edge where traffic is moving and catch a taxi faster than from closer to the point.

Personally, I wouldn't even attempt to try to see OSJ with a 2:45 flight. You may get a little time, but not much. If there is an event going on in OSJ, it only complicates the matter. The airport will more than likely be a madhouse at the time he needs to check in. It will definately make for a stressful departure. If you are looking for something more relaxed, enjoy breakfast in the MDR as late as you can before he leaves for the airport.
