Sailing on the Med 3/27. Any recommendations for must do shore tours, or shore tours to definitely avoid? Also, if the shore tours are purchased on board are they more expensive than pre-booking them through the internet? Happy sailing to all!!!

You might want to check out the threads on Cruise Critics for the specific ports. I found out some great info about shore excursions in St. Thomas and San Juan. This is what I posted on a different thread.

"I have found some good info about excursions on other threads on this board. Found a great evening walking tour guide for San Juan - same price as the one thru Costa but the difference is she only takes 15 people instead of a much larger group and she has great reviews here. Her name is Debbie and her website is:

The other one is a tour guide in St. Thomas (Sunny Liston). For only $20 a person he picks you up at the ship, drops you off for 1, 2 or 3 hrs of shopping (your choice) then he picks everyone up at noon and does a tour that includes going to the top of the highest mountain on the island. Then he takes you to your choice of beach for 2 hrs and picks you up and takes you back to the ship. All that for only $20 a person!!! (And you don't pay him until the end of the tour!) He has also gotten rave reviews on this board. Sunny's website is:

If you want to read other cruisers' feedback on these two just go to the section of Cruise Critics that has the threads on the ports and you will find the info there."

Hope it helps! If you are going to different ports just check those specific threads. I love this board - such great info!

You may want to check out http://www.shoretours.com. I just returned from escorting a group of 200 to the Caribbean and that is you I used for some of the groups shore excursions and they were super! The cruise line doesn't like you doing that because it takes away from onboard revenue. But it's all about the quality of the excursions and your overall experience.

My favorite shore excursions on an Eastern Caribbean cruise were: The Kontiki Rum Boat in St. Thomas, tour of St. John's, Kandela Show in the Dominican Republic. We did a tour 2 weeks ago in St. Thomas with Timmy & Sarah Ross. He was great. Gave a lot of information and went up to the highest mountain in St. Thomas where we got a very good banana daiquiri. He also goes to the beaches and charges $20.00/person at the end of the tour. The Kandela show was the best.
