HAWKCRUISER Posted May 27, 2011 #1 Share Posted May 27, 2011 My wife and I like to order ruebens with turkey instead of corned beef. Some the the local restaraunts where we are from actually have the turkey rueben on the menu. Has anyone ordered a turkey rueben from the deli or room service? Froufie Posted May 27, 2011 #2 Share Posted May 27, 2011 There are no 'reubens' on the room service menu but I am pretty sure you can have your 'reuben' customized at the deli counter as long as they have all the ingredients?
Justsyd Posted May 27, 2011 #3 Share Posted May 27, 2011 The Deli should be able to make that for you, no problem.

sparkscruiser Posted May 27, 2011 #6 Share Posted May 27, 2011 If I remember correctly, there was a room service menu posted by Host Mach within the last few days that had a reuben on it... I was pleasantly surprised by that as I don't recall it on my last cruise.... Anyway, not sure you could get them to deviate when ordering from room service - but if you go to the deli you should be able to - there may be a bit of a language barrier though. Our last cruise DH went to get us reubens and the fellow kept making them with ham instead of pastrami.... and DH could not seem to get the fellow to understand he was making it with the wrong meat! Still was good - just different.
sparkscruiser Posted May 27, 2011 #7 Share Posted May 27, 2011 Well I used the search feature and found this post from Host Mach with the room service menu on it.
LitchfieldParkCruisers Posted May 27, 2011 #8 Share Posted May 27, 2011 What? You think you can walk right onto a cruise ship and demand turkey instead of corned beef? You start barking out orders like that and you just might be escorted off the ship, or down to the brig if you pull that stunt out in international water!! The kitchen workers are on a strict schedule!! They don't have time to personalize the menu to everyone's individual needs. Next thing you know, people will want the BLT with bacon on the side, a cheeseburger with extra cheese, the lobster bisque with no lobster..... But you might try ordering a grilled turkey sandwich with saurkraut, swiss cheese and russian dressing....because a reuben with turkey instead of corned beef is NOT a reuban....I will also be contacting the "Reuben Lovers Association of America"..I am sure they will want to know about this. Sorry, just feeling a bit silly this morning...have great trip and enjoy your favorite sandwich!!! LPC

I have in fact switched the corned beef to turkey at the deli on the ship. No issues at all after the puzzled look. Absolutely delicious!
Froufie Posted May 27, 2011 #12 Share Posted May 27, 2011 yes, they are. Yes I see that they have since been added to the room service menu!!! :D (but I would think if you want the turkey option your best bet is still to visit the actual deli counter and customize your sandwich!) NavarreCruiser Posted May 27, 2011 #15 Share Posted May 27, 2011 I always order a turkey reuben at the deli. They can make any sandwich you want, anyway that you want as long as they have the makings right there in front of them. But I don't believe the same is true of room service. Where I live, the turkey reuben is called a "blonde reuben". I order them sometimes and they are very tasty!:D It is still considered a reuben. Sorry, just feeling a bit silly this morning...have great trip and enjoy your favorite sandwich!!! I know you were just having some fun! golfadj Posted May 29, 2011 #21 Share Posted May 29, 2011 As long as you can make the people at the deli station understand what you want no problem to customize your sandwich. For example always get mix of pastrami and corned beef.
