138east Posted June 9, 2011 #26 Share Posted June 9, 2011 Thanks, yes there are 2 of us and $250 a night (++) doesn't scare us too much. A 3 star is our absolute minimum, we have been tempted by the Herald Square Hotel, have read some good reviews.we do want to stay on Manhattan, our first time in New York, so we will be doing touristy things for a few days :) I did see a suite style room available in the Empire State area for a pretty good price - as I said to the previous poster will keep an eye on availability and probably book early next month. I agree - a 3* hotel is the absolute minimum. I think the suite hotel might be the Murray Hill Apartments. Watch Hotwire and see what comes up - you can always post back here for advice. Be sure to check Betterbidding - it has been very reliable in identifying the possible hotels. If you're willing to take a chance, IMO you will get a better deal for the $$$ on Hotwire and if you like, you can insure your room for a modest amount of $$$. We just stayed at the Affinia Manhattan just last week and LOVED it. It's an older hotel, but it was clean and SO convenient to everything! Our room was much bigger than I had anticipated. The walk to Times Square isn't bad at all.
