johnami Posted June 7, 2011 #1 Share Posted June 7, 2011 I hope to get information on the best way for 1 person to transfer from Rome Airport, FCO, to Civitavecchia and a hotel for 1 night before the cruise. I would be very grateful for any suggestions.
cherylandtk Posted June 7, 2011 #2 Share Posted June 7, 2011 The big question is how much luggage and can you handle it yourself or do you need assistance? If you can handle your bag easily yourself, take the Leonardo Express from airport to Rome Termini. Spend the night in your hotel of choice, and take the train to Civitavecchia the next day. Less than 30 euros for both trains. If you have multiple bags, the easiest way is a taxi, but it will cost quite a bit more.
johnami Posted June 7, 2011 Author #3 Share Posted June 7, 2011 Thank you so much for the prompt reply. Any idea of the cost of a taxi?
henry hound Posted June 12, 2011 #4 Share Posted June 12, 2011 We took the train from FCO to Civitavecchia, you take the regionale train from the airport changing at Rome Trastevere, changing onto another regionale train to Civitavecchia . total cost €12.10 each. We stayed at a hotel in Civitavecchia for the night before our cruise. I believe a cab can cost around €150-200??? the cruise line were offering transfers for us$91 . good luck ! novicruiser Posted June 12, 2011 #5 Share Posted June 12, 2011 In November my husband and I took a taxi into Rome (45 euros, I believe - it is a fixed by law fee) stayed in a convent two nights (near Colosseum) then took train 4.5 euros each to Civitavecchio. We are very early seventies and had no difficulties other than the staircase at Civitavecchio. Of course this being Italy, several people helped us up the stairs with our (large and overweight - never again!) suitcases. A delightful 20 minute walk with two German toursists also heading to their ship, and then the shuttle to the Q.V. Taxi from Rome to ship 150 euros and up. We didn't feel it was worth it. themnms Posted June 13, 2011 #6 Share Posted June 13, 2011 if you are cruising check to see if there is a roll call thread. Fellow cruisers may have arranged transportation and you might be able to hop on!! Our last cruise there were a few of us and it ended up being about 22 euro each...from hotel right to ship!
