Gibraltar for families tour GI32 v DIY

There is a Gibraltar for families tour GI32 which would be £100 for the four of us. The Celebrity tour includes Europa point, the cable car, guided tour of the terraces, free time and icecream, St Michael's cave ("Regroup with your guide and stride along the wooded path to St. Michael's Cave to admire what was a source of wonderment even in ancient times" do you actually go in??), Apes, and entry to Gibraltar museum. Sounds tempting.

This seems to be good value if it includes the caves, but it is not clear and that is the one thing we really want to see. We were considering a DIY tour but we wouldn't get to Europa point and the Gibraltar museum we would just do the Rock.

Has anyone done this tour? The tour lasts three and a half hours with transport via mini-bus and cable car.

Advice please.

We did this tour last year in Gibraltar when on IOS RCCL but we found the private guide outside the port area, there will be loads there with there mini buses that seat 10-12 people and it's easy to find another 6-8 guests to join you and the cost was £15.00-£20.00 each and we really did enjoy the tour

You will love St. Michael's Cave and yes you do go inside and without spoiling it for you it's just great :) a real must see.

This tour is so much better going the DIY way I hope you have great fun in Gib whatever you decide :) and remember there tax free we bought cigs booze and saved loads on a new hd camera.

Also on the main square there a really nice fish and chip shop that is not to be missed the fish just melts in your mouth.

Totally agree :) doing this tour with any cruise line would be throwing good money away thats just our opion though.

Feedback on the Gibraltar tours was not that good last year - its a lot of money for a trip you can easily DIY

The price seems quite reasonable for 4 people, including the cable car and caves entrance, for a ship tour that is. If you pick up a private tour, wouldn't those prices be on top of the basic tour prices?

I've had a week in Gib and it's very small (4 sq miles) and easy to get everywhere. The children will love the apes and the scenery from the top is brilliant. The one thing I think that the children would enjoy is lunch at the beach at lovely Catalan Bay, just a mile from the town centre.

I would say do it on your own. You don't need a guide. You can take a port shuttle into town and easily walk to the cable car, beating the queues from the cruise ship tours; do the apes and caves; back down and walk down through the town, (don't miss the interesting side streets) then pick a bus up or walk round to Catalan Bay, avoiding the busy square where everyone will be lunching. We had the most memorable John Dory gougons in a waterside cafe in the bay. Very easy to get the bus back or walk from there to town as it's only a mile.

Catalan Bay, Gibraltar

Europa point isn't much to see but you could easily get the bus after coming down from the cable car if it's important to you.

It's really interesting to walk back down from the apes rather than cable car, which is what we did. :)
