dream safes

Recommended Posts

:confused:Was I dreaming or did I read that there was no charge for the safes on the Dream

We are just back from Dream and they are now charging for use of safe in cabin, (£15/ week, think £25 for two )although it does state in brochure AND in the ticket book FOC , reception said this was introduced 6 weeks ago.Could not be bothered to argue over this as we were on our hols. With 753 cabins( if full )not a bad little earner for Thomsom:rolleyes: ?

Apart from that small issue everything was as good as last year

Up to half a million a year revenue for handing out keys

Cruise ships cabins are pretty secure if you remember to lock the door so what are the risks of say buying a travelsafe bag and attaching it to a not in view immovable object in your cabin?

i suppose if;

- someone specifically targetted your cabin

- had a master key

- knew where to look

- had bolt cutters to free the bag or a master key

- made off with your valuables

the company would deny responsibility and say you had left the cabin door unlocked, plus you should have used their safe. If you had used their safe they might claim you had left it unlocked.

ok where can i buy a travelsafe bag from sure it would more than pay for itself as we usually holiday 3 times a year and at £15 a week thats £45

Amazon sell em for £32.08 but I got mine for £26 a year ago.

Pacsafe TravelSafe

read the reviews for tips on enhancing security etc

I usually attach mine to a rail in the wardrobe or there is pipe work etc. basically anything solidly attached that you can get the cable around will do.

Of course paranoia rules for me so I sadly write down the numbers of the banknotes I take with me :o So if someone half inches my casino bankroll I have all the numbers and will insist they find the stuff!

I would say unless Thomson lettered everyone informing them of the introduction of a charge for the use of the safe and the fact its in black and white as FOC in the brochure I would think there would be case for anyone to question it.I might while wifes at the shops in Palma :D

Just checked the brochure and under "MONEY MATTERS ABOARD SHIP"section EXTRA CHARGES ABOARD SHIP the use of safe is comes under that so Thomsons are correct although was not charged last year

Well skip the trip to Reception, Jim, and just head for the bar instead!! ;)

Thank you for your email addressed to our former Managing Director of Cruise, David Selby. As part

of a specialised team, fully trained to investigate and respond to correspondence addressed to

our Board of Directors, I''ve been asked to review your file today.

Having done so, I note that you''re unhappy that charges are now applied onboard Thomson Dream for

the safety deposit box facility, and over the way this has been introduced, following your cruise

on the ship on 4th June 2011.

Just to make you aware, our new Managing Director of Cruise is Fraser Ellacott.

At the start of May, a decision was made to bring Thomson Dream into line with our other cruise

ships who charge for this facility. Whilst I''m aware that tickets did state there is no charge

for this, there is a clause which advises the information contained in that document is current

at the time of printing - but is liable to change.

We''re making sure that this information is changed in new ticketing documents issued - and I''m

sorry for any inconvenience and upset this issue has caused you.

Think you will find there is a charge and they have the get out clause

Steve

You could argue that their get out clause is incorrect, as it states that the booklet is correct at time of printing, which it obviously isn't, if current prints are still advising the safe is FOC.

Know what your saying but there get out clause could be the Thomson brochure where the use of a safe comes under "MONEY MATTERS ABOARD SHIP"section EXTRA CHARGES ABOARD SHIP

They could, but then why not say that in the first response they gave, rather then the "tickets are correct at time of printing" line, think they have made a rod for their own back, if someone dared report it (well, 2 people, the first with the original letter, and the second with tickets issued after the charge started).

I actually agree with you on both posts and also after reading my travel documents & personal guide. We had the debacle last year when they changed the drinks list only to revert back to the original after complaints, now this.Anything to squeeze even more money out of passengers.

Well i`ve news for them,surprise,surprise,they won`t be getting £15 from me ;) :D
