SpeedyMarie Posted March 18, 2005 #1 Share Posted March 18, 2005 My husband and I thinking about staying at the Ballaine House B&B in Seward. We are staying in Seward for 4 days in July, however, so we want a place that would be a nice, comfortable place where we can eat and sleep, yet not too expensive. Any rants or raves about the place? We are also considering renting one of the nicer beachside cabins at Miller's Landing, with the (perhaps mistaken) idea that we could just walk out around the beach and maybe do some casual kayaking in our free time. Any thoughts? Husband is not too big on roughing it, so I don't think he would enjoy Miller's Landing if it's too close to a true camping experience. Thanks in advance for any comments! GlacierLady Posted March 18, 2005 #2 Share Posted March 18, 2005 Ballaine B&B is ok,located on a very busy street. The block it is on is called millionaire's row.In early 1900's some of the prominent business men lived here, older houses.3 block downhill walk to downtown.Miller's landing cabins are very close to "roughing it" but you'll have a roof over your head.If not your style, Alaska Salt Water lodge if you want right on the water with very nice accomodations. Kayaking is available right outside the door. There are many nice places to stay here. You need to decide what area, what your activies will be to find something convenient. Boat harbor, downtown,in between,Lowell Point, north of town, noisy, quiet, view, near water, near trails, will you have transportation and need parking? ect ect. No place is really bad here, just many options to choose from.
SpeedyMarie Posted March 18, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted March 18, 2005 Thank you, Glacier Lady! Do you mean Ballaine House B&B? The proprietor of Ballaine House B&B told me that her place is different than "Ballaine B&B," so I just wanted to clarify. I will check out Saltwater Lodge as well. Kenwoody Posted March 19, 2005 #5 Share Posted March 19, 2005 We choose the Ballaine House, historicsewardbb@yahoo.com , Marlee is the neatest lady. She will help you with your tours. She is even going to pick up our luggage from the train so we can go directly to the boat. She is recommended by http://www.Frommers.com .

thasmin Posted March 20, 2005 #7 Share Posted March 20, 2005 I have been trying for months to get booking info from the Ballaine House (Marlee), as I was interested in staying there myself this summer. She does not seem to answer her phone or return messages from phone or email. I finally got ahold of a friend / caretaker at their number who said he had no idea when she would be taking reservations or if she was even going to come back this month. How confusing for a property that is supposedly open year round. Despite all the recommendations I have seen, I don't consider this a dependable lead myself. I gave up and reserved another location. During the winter there are mainly longer term tenants there.Alot of people do leave for the winter. I can certainly understand your frustrations. I wouldn't rate the place as a top pick anyways. Frommer's...just looked at their website...it's the only listed B&B and only 5 in the list? ohh my! We must have at least 100 places to stay here! They listed 3 restaurants and we have plenty of those too..I'm not impressed with their site.

Major Marine Kenai Fjords Tour 2.) Sealife Center tickets 3.) Ididaride dogsled Tour The website is cool as you can see all the lodgings available, put them in a folder then decide which you liked best after your through.
