eandmburke Posted September 12, 2011 #27 Share Posted September 12, 2011 Caution; You are allowed 5 liters per person, not six...we were told 6 by customs...as long as one is a local bottle
m steve Posted September 13, 2011 #28 Share Posted September 13, 2011 customs doesn't care whether they are 750s or Ltrs. And if you go over, they rarely charge.
Macleod518 Posted September 15, 2011 #29 Share Posted September 15, 2011 So as to not start a new thread, and since this is related, does anyone know where the best island would be to buy Jagermeister? In Dec I'm going to Nassau, Grand Turk, Puerto Rico & St. Thomas, and was wondering if any of these would have Jager for a decent price. I remember last time I was in Nassau I got 1 liter bottle for around $23. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
HappyHappy1 Posted September 19, 2011 #30 Share Posted September 19, 2011 If you venture over to St. John, you have to try Bones Rum! It is locally made and only sold at the Bones Rum store in St. John. You wont find it at any liquor store in St. Thomas. It is a little more expensive...$19. They offer free samples of the rum there too and also have rum goods (rum cake, rumballs...etc). One thing I noticed when we were in the VI this summer. The Cruzan Rum bottles all say they are distributed through IL. If you go to St. John...you gotta check it out.
Ms411 Posted September 19, 2011 #31 Share Posted September 19, 2011 There's a Bones Rum Shack in St Thomas so no need to go to St John. It's in International Plaza just down from The Greenhouse Restaurant. I bought rum for .98 and $1.00 per bottle at the liquor store inside the terminal dock in San Juan. The .98 bottle was Pat O'Brien's Hurricane Rum of the New Orleans Pat O'Brien Restaurant. The other bottle I can't remember the name. I showed it to another passenger who was on the ship, and he bought a bottle of the $1 rum. When I saw him later on the ship, he said it was good. Don't know if it'll still be there when you cruise or if they're always available. My friend may use it to make vanilla extract instead of using cheap vodka. HappyHappy1 Posted September 19, 2011 #32 Share Posted September 19, 2011 Thanks for the update on Bones! When we were in St. Thomas, we checked at least 4 or 5 places and we were told that you can only get it on St. John. I'll have to go to the International Market to get some! Thanks again! Ms411 Posted September 19, 2011 #33 Share Posted September 19, 2011 It's International Plaza - not International Market. They have tables with umbrellas outside. I think the umbrellas are black. I think this is the same rum that's made at Blackbeard's Castle. At least this is what I was told when they first opened.
m steve Posted September 20, 2011 #34 Share Posted September 20, 2011 private label rum so it may be a special bottling that they do for that shop.
fluffygirl Posted September 20, 2011 #35 Share Posted September 20, 2011 Is it just the rum that is a good price or do they have Crown Black and other liquors at a good price too?

We plan to go to Charlotte Amalie to visit the Synagogue from Crown Bay and then join up with our friends at Bones. We will take a cab to the Synagogue and when we are thru do we just walk downhill:D to the main street (Waterfront Street?) and if anyone knows where to turn next, please let me know. mrobstad Posted February 9, 2012 #37 Share Posted February 9, 2012 Ive always purchased booze on cruises, but have decided to use only carry on luggage this trip. Is there a way to purchase liquor if you don't have checked luggage?
Ms411 Posted February 10, 2012 #38 Share Posted February 10, 2012 If you walk downhill from the synagogue to the Waterfront, no matter which street you come down, Bones will be a few "blocks" to the right. It's just west of The Greenhouse restaurant.
kcparrothead Posted February 10, 2012 #39 Share Posted February 10, 2012 I recommend the Chocolate Rum Liqueur from AH Riise! It's delicious as a sipping rum (we chill it first.) I think I paid $5.50/bottle for it and apparently it is only sold in St. Thomas.
