I will still cruise Carnival , but I will have to spend more for a balcony , or compare the cost between balcony and inside or oceanview with the added 250 on the bill , if it is cheaper , I will pay the 250 and treat the room like a border bar .

But having to do this , I will have to cut spending elsewhere , flame me if you like , but auto tips are coming off after my Sept cruise . Carnival can stop this that is true , but I have the ability to remove my tips . win win .

Oh good lord:rolleyes: Just like the 5 people in the cabin cheapo.....just stay home and save a little more for your balcony cabin......
I really think some people on here should not be cruising due to finances......don't flame me because it is my very humble opinion.....
I see more Princess cruises in my future....

I just canceled 3 cruises due to this policy and sold my shares in CCL before the price tanks. People do not realize how big of a deal this is to smoking vacationers...

If I may be permitted an observation, as someone who hasn't sailed Carnival in the last couple of decades:

The non-smokers among you may find this new policy (smoking on balconies / no smoking in rooms) to be a mixed blessing. It pretty much sounds like the policy adopted by RC, several years ago. DH and I had always booked balcony cabins on RC. And, while we had noticed some cigarette/cigar smoke, it had not ever really been a problem. First cruise after the new policy was implemented was a back-to-back on the (then) brand new Independence of the Seas. We were thrilled to have a cabin that didn't reek of old smoke, but whenever we stepped out onto our balcony, it was another story. We quickly realized that all the smokers had moved out onto the balconies -- and brought all their friends from the inside cabins with them! For two weeks straight, about the only time (if we were lucky) we could use our balcony without choking was the middle of the night.

Moral of the story is that, if you are really serious about escaping the second-hand smoke, you pretty much have to go with a cruise line that restricts smoking to a few public places on the ship, like Celebrity.

So by punishing the employee's you think that is going to stick em:confused: You can control the whole situation by not booking with them at all.......

I would expect this exact same thing to happen on Carnival.

Just celebrated 26 years without a cig on May 31.

I am tolerant of smokers, but the DW gets very congested when near smoke. Either get a far forward cabin, or a cabin on the very aft and I think you would be less likely to be affected by your neighbors smoking.

For those smokers who will choose to not cruise or to cruise other lines I say this...

You can't please all the people all the time...and

I can't tell you the secret to success but I can surely tell the secret to failure-try to please everyone.

With that in mind, don't think Carnival is going to cry over you. It is the most popular cruiseline, and even in these tough economic times they still manage to fill those ships. This will be a bigger positive for them then you think. JMHO!:)

Calico Jack Sparrow -- love your screen name (and avatar)! :p

I'm not familiar with Carnival deck plans, but if your ships have aft-facing cabins -- those may be your best bet for escaping the smoke. The air currents seem to pull the smoke out to sea, rather than blowing it onto other balconies. Also, if Carnival's aft balconies are a little larger (like RC's) you may have a little more real estate between neighbors, which helps too!

I am afraid the new policy is actually going to make things worse for non smokers. Will we be able to actually use our balconies or will the cigarette smoke drive us inside?

If I were you, I would try to book the first forward most balcony cabins if smoking is a problem for you, that way, you will have no issues.

I'm a smoker and I'm not bothered by the new policy. I think it is more than fair. I never smoked in my cabin anyway and I don't smoke in my home either.

The people who are outraged about the new policy must not live in "smoke-free" states where smoking has been banned from any indoor public area. It's the norm here in Maryland and Washington, D.C so I am used to going out into the "elements" for a smoke break.

It's just how it is this days. Get over it.

I don't smoke but have respect for polite smokers. THANK YOU!

I am going to start a writting to complain about perfums,. After shave, cologne and laundry as it sets my migrains off and I can't enjoy being around any one who uses things that smell

Effective June 15, 2011, cigarette smoking in public venues will only be permitted in Carnival’s dance clubs as well as in designated areas within the casino and casino bar.

Smoking (including cigars) will be permitted in designated exterior open deck areas (starboard side) of all our ships. Additionally, smoking will also be allowed in the jazz clubs of the following ships: Carnival Destiny, Carnival Triumph, Carnival Victory, Carnival Spirit, Carnival Pride, Carnival Legend, Carnival Miracle, Carnival Conquest, Carnival Glory, Carnival Valor, Carnival Liberty, Carnival Freedom, and Carnival Splendor.

* All Spa suites and staterooms, inclusive of the balconies, are an entirely smoke-free environment.

* Effective December 1, 2011, smoking will be prohibited in all guest staterooms. Guests in balcony staterooms may smoke (including cigars) outside on their balcony.

Guests who smoke in their staterooms will be assessed a $250 cleaning and refreshing fee on their Sail & Sign account. Information on this fee is included in Carnival’s ticket contract.

Bravo!!! I'll join the letter writing campaign -- Sign me up.

John's site is overloaded and so is Carnival but he has the news on his facebook page

Good deal....no more smoking in piano bar, inside/outside cabins....

balcony only

wonder how/if they will monitor this?? Maybe they should have sprinklers "go off" if someone smokes in a cabin and then charge them for it??

I have had balconies 2x but don't use that much since I am single and I am out and about....not going to sit around on a balcony with a gal pal, thanks LOL>> so it really doesn't matter to me

I will say....I have been predicting this and yeah, I was right..

My guess is it will only get tighter and tighter rules on smokers....for those who cry that they will "go elsewhere"....gotta wonder where....

Princess is banning all cabin smoking in Oct....

Carnival was the most "liberal" line....well now they are coming around too

Have to laugh at those who say "Carnival loves smokers'>> guess they don't love them too much LOL

and if smokers don't obey the balcony only rule and continue to stink up the hallways guess they will tighten it further

How will they monitor this, you ask? By assessing a $250 cleaning fee to your Sail and Sign account if you smoke in your cabin.

I think it is about time. There are plenty of studies that show that second-hand smoke is dangerous. And it just plain stinks. It chokes me up and burns my eyes. It makes my clothes stink. All I can say is I don't think they went far enough. I'd like to see it banned altogether in the casino in particular. I can't tell you how many times I've had to get up and leave the casino because the smoke was so overwhelming.

I don't mean to offend smokers at all. But if they say they won't sail on Carnival due to the new smoking rules, all I can say is thank you.

And thank you Carnival!

:) Good news! Received the email from Carnival notifying us of the change in smoking restrictions for our Feb 2012 cruise on the Dream. I'd be happy with a smoke free cruise. I hope the smoking area in the casino is a tiny corner. :)

Me too wing! And preferably a tiny corner outside the casino that is enclosed. lol

Airlines were first and it saved them bunch of money.

Cigarette smoke does a lot of damage to the insides of cruise ships. That's why majority of the hotel chains are going smoke free.

One of us smokes, but we BOTH thank Carnival for their common sense decisions re smoking !

Smokers are a distinct minority, and should be prohibited from getting the majority of people sick.

They who choose to NOT stop are MUCH lower % of the U.S. than years ago:

It's only a matter of time, but we have to keep letting Carnival know it is an issue.

Okay, I have to ask.

I you had 3 cruises booked you are a serious cruiser and it is very important to you, and now because of this change by Carnival you have canceled the 3 cruises.

Have you booked or are you booking with another cruise line? If so, what cruise line has a less strict smoking policy than Carnival? If not, what are you planning to do for vacations now?

I understand the frustration but I'm interested in hearing what people are going to do in place of Carnival or cruising in general.
