BWP Posted June 17, 2011 #1 Share Posted June 17, 2011 Hi, I know this subject has been beaten to death already, but my dilemma is from a slightly different angle, with children thrown into the mix! We're doing a 12 night Med cruise with our 3 small children next month, and we have to decide what to do when we arrive at our Salerno stop. Such wonderful options... Pompeii, Sorrento, Capri, Positano - I wish we could do them all ;), but have to be realistic and pick one. We've narrowed it down to Capri or Positano, but it's such a tough choice.... just wondering if anyone can shed some light as to which one will be more enjoyable/practical with children, or is it neither here nor there? We're not going to do the ship excursions, will rather do our own thing... but need to pick one so that I can start doing the necessary research. I know it's a subjective matter, but from reading all the previous posts, it sounds as if most people feel the Amalfi Coast has the slight edge over Capri.... We've been to Portofino before - I'm wondering if Portofino is very similar to Positano? Any insight would be much appreciated - thanks!
euro cruiser Posted June 17, 2011 #2 Share Posted June 17, 2011 Hmmm...I would think Capri would have more to offer them than Positano, and more space to run around. There are lots of outdoor things to do, and green spaces on Capri that you won't find in Positano. Take a look at the options on www.capri.net. paul929207 Posted June 17, 2011 #3 Share Posted June 17, 2011 I would think kids would like Capri better. The hydrofoil ride there. The Blue Grotto.
lisiamc Posted June 17, 2011 #4 Share Posted June 17, 2011 Do they get carsick? The road along the Amalfi coast is VERY twisty and hilly.
bonnieg Posted June 17, 2011 #5 Share Posted June 17, 2011 The only problem you will have is the limited ferry service from Salerno. The link below is the schedule to Capri. There is a high speed ferry at 8:15 and a Traghetto ferry at 8:40. For the return the high speed is at 5:15pm and the Traghetto is at 4:25pm. http://www.capri.com/en/ferry-schedule?path_id=13 Below is the ferry schedule to Positano. Also limited. There are a few different ferries that do this route. Look for a route that lists both Positano and Salerno. Click Salerno for the ferries departing Salerno and Positano for the ferries departing Positano. http://www.metrodelmare.net/orari-tratte-e-tariffe/ Positano is probably your best, safest bet. You can do a beach day and have a nice lunch at the waterside. The town is vertical and can be a tough climb for the little ones or if you have a stroller. If the ferry doesn't work out, there is also a bus that will take you back to Salerno. Amalfi is also a nice town and you can take a bus up to Ravello. This is the research I have come up with. I"m not sure if there are any other ferry companies that do these routes.
TheBestIsYetToCome Posted June 17, 2011 #6 Share Posted June 17, 2011 I agree about Capri. Another fun diversion: the funicular. Maybe a cabriolet taxi ride?
