Liberty - 4th June (Med) & 3 Days Barcelona Review with pics (hopefully)

Recommended Posts

Well thought I'd do a review of the whole trip. :):)

Where to start, well the beginning is the best place. We were doing the Liberty of the Seas on 4th June and 3 days in Barcelona post cruise for my 40th birthday.

Day 1 - Embarkation (Barcelona)

We flew KLM from Glasgow to Barcelona (via Amsterdam), which was okay, could have done with a direct flight but, hey, it got us to the ship on time and the KLM leg room was great for us.

Banking into Barcelona airport and there she was out of the corner of my eye I could see the ship (wow!!), even from the air she looked huge, even compared to Explorer which was our last RCCL cruise.

Barcelona airport is a joy to be in, lots of space. We were escorted through the corridors and down the stairs where we were given our sea pass cards. So we didn't have to wait in the huge (and I mean huge) queues at the port, straight onto the ship!

We arrived on the ship just after 1.00pm, so we went directly to our cabin, as it was ready. Cabin 8309 (Promenade View), lovely cabin, quite small, but that was fine for us, as we were not going to be spending lots of time in it, enough room for all our things, the only thing I would say is more drawer space would be handy rather than the shelves in the wardrobe.

Time to explore, she's a beauty, such an amazing amount of space for a ship that hold 4,000plus people. I loved the promenade for my favourite holiday past-time (people watching).

More later better get back to work ..........

You have some great pictures of the Promonade! I always had lighting problems there…I am guessing you are using a reflex camera, or have a very stable hand for low light settings.

At last, we are aboard!!!! *straight to the windjammer we go for nibbles, wow it's packed already, but managed to get a seat and a quick bite to eat. *

Usual food available, pasta, pizza, salad, curry, meat dishes, soups etc etc etc could go on all day , better not though*

first thing after lunch was find our cabin, Deck 8 mid ship, promenade stateroom, smaller than I thought but big enough for us, usual comfortable bed, fantastic shower, two seats and a window onto the promenade.

next, we decide to book our show tickets for the trip (in the air, Saturday night fever and the ice show)*

then it's off on deck to check out the sights of the ship, wow, three pools, one adult only (will have to try that area), one just for kids and a general pool with the big screen tv*

checked out the flow rider very cool, no chance of us trying that*

back down to room to see if luggage arrived, mine has, henry's not yet, so I unpacked mine and met our cabin steward Mark.*

back downstairs to have a wander round the promenade, huge nearly as big as the overgate shopping centre*

then off to the muster drill (compulsory), bit of a faff but has to be done for security*

then upstairs for the sailaway, bit underwhelmed by this as most guests don't even bother going on deck, nothing really happened apart from the. dreamworks characters*

so we are off, went back to room, finally henrys luggage arrived. *unpacked and realised he has more clothes than me this time !!! *might have to rectify that in the onboard shops I think*

time for tea, windjammer again, as always, as we never use the main dining room, good selection of food so just have a little of a few things, quite tasty if a bit cold*

wander round the bars and shops now, there are some lovely spots to wile away the hours on board, sorrentos for pizzas, promenade cafe for tea, cakes etc, hoof and claw pub(bit smoky so don't bother with going inside), champagne bar, wine bar, schooners (terrible singer on here), sphinx bar(chilly), casino (yippee it has super jackpot party that we liked in Vegas), they are showing 3d movies in the theatre very good but no use when I already wear glasses

well that's the end of day 1
