Golden to Alaska 2011, Alaska Night

I know there is an Italian night, but what is Alaskan night. I was looking at Patters from earlier in the season and noted an Alaskan night in the buffet. Does this mean there'll be Alaskan haddock, Alaskan wild salmon etc? hope hope. Is there an Alaskan night in the main dining rooms?

I love that Princess has at least some Alaskan "stuff" on an Alaskan cruise. What is the short movie that's shown on embarkation day, that's about Alaska, a sort of travelog? Thanks

Yes, there is an Alaskan Night in the main dining rooms. I think (but am not positive) that it is the night that Golden is in Juneau. Here is the menu, as of last year.

Appetizers

Marinated Vegetable Antipasto with Basil Oil

Poached Game and Wild Mushroom Pate with Port Wine Glaze

Provencale Style King Crab Legs Tossed in Garlic Butter

Soups and Salad

Celebrated Alaskan Seafood Soup with White Fish, Shrimp and Mussels

Roasted Corn and Sweet Potato Chowder

Chilled Apple and Cider Soup with Calvados

Seasonal Field Greens with Shredded Carrots and Cherry Tomatoes

Main Courses

Steamed Cod over Warm Lentil Salad

Surf & Turf (Seared Mignon of Beef Tenderloin and Jumbo Shrimp)

Grilled Chicken Paillard with Chimichurri Sauce

Roast Venison Loin with Celery Root Puree

Cured and Smoked Pork Loin

Fried Tofu with Miso Sauce and Chinese Pea Pods

We were on the S/B Island princess June 8-15, 20011 and I didn't realize that menu was Alaska nite..guess I didn't read the small print.

FYI..I had the Roasted corn and Sweet Potato Chowder which was 'ok'..too much corn so more like a bowl of creamed corn rather than chowder.

The Surf and Turf was delicious....Princess knows how to cook Jumbo shrimp and they were JUMBO...bigger than most people's prawns.

Oh are you so kind to type all that out. Sounds wonderful. I know what I'm ordering already!

Did you save all the menus? Short of scanning them and making them available, what's on the Italian night, and which night is that, if you remember? Thanks. You're grrrrrreat

Someone had mentioned that Princess did away with Crab Legs (my absolute FAVORITE). Can someone recently back from the Golden confirm this?

We were on the Golden 5/21/11 and on that sailing they had crab legs as an appetizer.

Here's the link to the Princess Patters for the 2011 Alaska cruises on the Golden.http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1432804. JanetFoster was gracious enough to post them for everyone. The patters only mention the theme for the buffet each night--not the MDR,but I'm sure they are similar. Hopefully someone will come along with a more definitive answer about the menus...in the meantime have fun checking out the patters.

I've really enjoyed the patters...now we're even more excited about our Sep cruise!

Somebody posted photos of the menus a couple of years ago and I typed them up for my own use. I'm weird that way.

Someone recently mentioned in a review that Italian Night is Tuesday on the Golden. Here is the menu:

Appetizers

Herb and Sea Salt Marinated Seafood Antipasto, Lemon Mayonnaise

Dry-Cured San Daniele Ham with Sweet Cantaloupe Melon

Eggplant Parmigiana with Basil-Tomato Sauce (very good)

Soups and Salads

!Pasta e Fagioli Red Bean Soup Dusted with parsley Parmesan

Rustic Vegetable minestrone, Pesto Crouton

Nippy Peach Soup with Sparkling Prosecco

Mixed Greens and Baby Spinach with Crisp Bacon Bits

Entrees

Sautéed Saltimbocca of Turbot with Parma Ham and Sage

Gamberi alla Fra Diavolo

(Flambéed Scampi in Hot and Fiery Marinara Sauce with Pearl Rice)

Classic Veal Scaloppini in Marsala Sauce (tough?)

Brasato di Manzo al Barolo (Beef Pot Roast Braised in Barolo Wine)

Pan-Fried Breaded Chicken Cutlet with Mushroom and Fontina Melt

Baked Zucchini with Cheese and Onion Stuffing

Dessert

Cassata all Siciliana (Ice cream trilogy with candied fruits)

Tiramisu

Frutta e Frutti di Bosco Gratinati (Fruit and berries in Sabayon Gratin, Pistachi Biscotti)

Sugar Free Machaccino Semifreddo (Orange Stew)

Gelato allo Zabaglione, Gelato al Torroncino, Sorbetto al Linoncello di Sorrento

I absolutely LOVE the Eggplant Parmesan appetizer... and I normally don't even like eggplant. I also really enjoyed the chicken entree. I think Italian night might be my favorite.

Lions and Tigers and Bears Oh My! I hope the menu is the same now, although I did hear they did not serve tiramisu in the Italian restaurant this year.
