mitchpam Posted June 28, 2011 #26 Share Posted June 28, 2011 If you are booked ES no downgrading is allowed. Even if we cancel and re-book? I know there will be the fee, but we would still end up with a big savings... right? We are kinda waiting to see if there is a bonus this summer or not... if not, than we may just downgrade.... we'll see. I will be happy with the suite, but if we can save a few hundred bucks I can be just as happy in a balcony. :) Thanks for your help firefly
Family Travel Story Posted June 29, 2011 #27 Share Posted June 29, 2011 I know on some lines, that if you book a suite, you at least get priority seating for the shows. For example on NCL, our butler would escort us down to a reserved area. Is this true on Carnival? The biggest problem with getting a suite for the first time, is that you get use to it, and then feel the need to keep booking them, such as we have done. elcuchio24 Posted June 29, 2011 #28 Share Posted June 29, 2011 For the owners suite, I would pay that. For an Ocean Suite, no. We got an upgrade to an ocean suite on Liberty but it was for far less $. Do it for the room, not for the perks, as there really aren't any. gooselover Posted June 29, 2011 Author #29 Share Posted June 29, 2011 From what I understand, the ONLY perks you get with a Carnival suite is priority Embark & debarkation. PERIOD. Yes, the room is bigger, but on the Jr Suites, the balcony is the same size as a regular balcony room - 34 sq ft I believe. Now, when you go to an Ocean View, that balcony is about the same size as an aft extended balcony. On RCL's Liberty of the Seas last fall, DH and I had a Jr. Suite. The room was heaven and the balcony, too. Priority Embark & Debark and double points on the Crown & Anchor, but that was it. But at least you got the double points! Carnival you get nothing..... And yes, once you have a suite, it is probably hard to go back to a balcony. But back to a regular balcony we are and saving the $700. We got our balcony, tax everything - total of $1271 for the both of us. Can't beat that for a 7 day cruise in my opinion.

I had too many stars in my eyes when I was planning our cruise, but *sometimes* you just gotta go for it and have that experience... drive the Jaguar instead of the Pinto, even if only for a day (or 7!). we'll see if we switch in a few weeks...
