sdmike Posted June 30, 2011 #1 Share Posted June 30, 2011 I'm sure it'll be easy to guess where we are (just look at where the POA is on Wednesdays), but just for fun I'll just give a couple of hints and pictures. Today we left the condo we're staying at near the beach and took a drive up into the mountains to visit some of the many small coffee plantations along the western side of the mountain. Lo and behold, guess what we see? yep! POA. Later on in the day as we were returning south along the coast we got a little closer. I have say the little town was pretty crowded! We'll get it back to ourselves tomorrow. :) Enjoy the pics..

TPEINC1958 Posted June 30, 2011 #3 Share Posted June 30, 2011 Why would they be tendering in Kauai? Because isn't that where Niumalu Beach is?
smrtypnts Posted June 30, 2011 #4 Share Posted June 30, 2011  Why would they be tendering in Kauai? Because isn't that where Niumalu Beach is? I googled this beach and you're right!!! That really is weird.
spacepotatoes Posted June 30, 2011 #5 Share Posted June 30, 2011 That is definitely strange! I saw the tenders and assumed it was Kona since that was only tendered port I could remember. In any case, this brings back great memories. I'd love to be on the POA right now!

Not only that, but the OP said it was a Wednesday, which is also a Kona day.
Maxxie Posted June 30, 2011 #7 Share Posted June 30, 2011 The POA is in Kona - there is also a Niumalu Beach in Kailua Kona.

Cubechick Posted June 30, 2011 #9 Share Posted June 30, 2011 Definitely Kona! Ah, the memories! The Big Island was our favorite...
jimswims Posted June 30, 2011 #10 Share Posted June 30, 2011 Nice pictures and I also love spotting NCL ships wherever I am. Last week I actually saw the NCL Dawn on Friday and then got to see the NCL Star on Saturday. I did not cruise on either.
sdmike Posted June 30, 2011 Author #11 Share Posted June 30, 2011 Kona it is! I thought for sure the mountain/coffee comment was the giveaway. :)
dasmonkey Posted June 30, 2011 #12 Share Posted June 30, 2011 IMHO that is just not a very attractive ship from the exterior. The bow looks entirely too short in proportion to the rest of the ship.

Can't say I disagree! I think she's the least attractive ship in the fleet...would still sail her again in a heartbeat! :D
my_crib_too Posted June 30, 2011 #14 Share Posted June 30, 2011 Kona was our favorite port in Hawaii a few years back (on the Wind). Hopefully, in a few years, we can spend a week or two on POA. Can’t think of a better way to see the islands.

Shep_Proudfoot Posted July 2, 2011 #23 Share Posted July 2, 2011 Honestly, as nice as it is, I personally find this picture a little aggravating as a bad reminder. The POA missed Kona when I took the HI cruise, as well as Maui soon thereafter for the first day. NCL seems to be prone to missing ports, as both NCL cruises I've taken missed ports and none of the other cruises I've taken have missed any. Were all of your cruises during the same time of year, similar itineraries and docking ports versus tender ports?
