Liberty of the Seas review--Really??

Recommended Posts

There is a review of the Liberty of the Seas on the home page of Cruise Critic. The review is not very good but it states they sailed the Liberty in June 2011 to the western and eastern Caribbean. I know the Liberty is in the Med cause my parents in law sailed her on the Trans-atlantic.

I thought maybe they meant the Freedom but the ports they talk about are Costa Maya, Belize, GC and Cozumel so Im not sure what they are talking about.

I guess if they dont know what ship they were on, or when they sailed, i'm guessing the accuracy of the review is pretty bogus.

The way the ship is described sounds like a RCCL ship.

However, there are some of parts that make me question the review. For example, "Getting off the ship in some ports almost took 2 hours. They ask you to meet at a theatre and wait until you are called. This on more than one occasion took at least an hour to be called." I've been on a lot of ships and have never experienced this....

I'm not sure what brochure they were looking at, as I have never seen information that states a Jr suite is eligible for full service in-room dining, but maybe I just wasn't looking for it.

My guess is their TA made a lot of promises about the Jr suite and the member was upset once they got on board and realized one of the few benefits is the larger space, not the extra benefits the other Suites get.

I notice the CC member (suitelive) is brand new. Maybe they put the wrong date. Did the Liberty ever do these alternating itineraries?

This review cannot be for Liberty (well not a June 2011 sailing) so I've contacted CC. We were on her in May 2011 in the Mediterranean and are sailing back from Barcelona to Fort Lauderdale in Oct this year.

Previous review also states being in an E2 cabin yet starts the review saying the cabin had a walk in closet and bath. E2's don't have a walk in closet (unless you're very slim!) nor bath, I think they are referring to a JS.

Hey there! I'm new to posting. Immediately after I posted I suspected the date was wrong. I went Jan. 2011. Can you tell me how to change the date?? Do I need to contact someone at cruise critic. I can't believe I did that. I'm sorry for the confusion.

Placed the wrong month.

I'm sorry about the wrong month. And I did send CC an email to fix it. Do you want a copy of the brochure, because I still have it. My TA didn't promise me anything. I've been on many cruises, and I can read a brochure for myself. I also have wonderful before and after pictures of our balcony - which I'd post if I knew how. I think it looked better with the table and they should have them on their balconies for other guests too.

My gift to Royal Caribbean was leaving them the table.

I'm actually curious about the brochure. Could you scan it and post it here? From what I've always read, RCCL only considers "Suites" those GS or above. On their website it specifies that Jr. Suites are excluded from the benefits, including full dining room menus for in-room dining: http://www.royalcaribbean.com/contentWithHero.do?pagename=enhanced_program_for_suite_guests

I do know there have been numerous complaints about the table size on the balcony and many others like yourself have brought along bigger tables to enjoy more meals on their balcony.

Princess has you wait in the theater if you are doing a shore excursion, then they escort everybody on the tour together. Perhaps Liberty does something similar? Having to wait an hour or two seems highly unlikely.

Hi, you are on here now. I am just curious about the 1-2 hours to get off. Was that in getting off the ship or was that the excursions? I am curious about the big ships, but am leery about cruising with so many people and the related traffic jams.

Attached is the scan. On my machine I had to zoom in to see the detail. You'll notice Junior Suite is in the top box tilted Balcony Suites - listed to the left. Then on the right you'll see "Full breakfast, lunch and dinner room service." It has a small cross next to this. Below the cross stands for "Menus available for in-room dining."

Now also on this page are some items with an *. Those items are: Complimentary Concierge service, Priority check-in, Priority departure, and Complimentary luggage valet service. Below the * stands for Excluding Junior Suites.

Then never excluded Junior Suites in this brochure that advertised the 2 cruises I went on as not getting the full breakfast, lunch and dinner room service.

Maybe cut the member a break? This was my error and my complete error. I reviewed this submission for approval and I read the date and I mistakenly thought it was for June because many members forget to update the sail month and the default is January. It was my fault. It's also not fair to question the accuracy of a review over what was an error. Thanks!

A few years ago, there was an RCCL brochure that did lump the JS in with the suites. Savvy cruisers were bringing it with them onboard and demanding their perks which were often granted. The error was reasonably quickly corrected in a new (and subsequent) brochures. Maybe the OP was just looking at an old one...except that this error pre-dated Liberty. maybe marketing screwed up again?

I'm trying to picture a table big enough for dinner for 4, plus 4 chairs on a JS balcony. I'd think it a little tight. But that's me.

Many aft cabins have HUGE balconies. I could easily see that set up on the balcony of Enchantment's 7166, for example.

I don't recall which port it occurred at on the first cruise because I thought maybe it was a fluke. But on the second cruise, I started paying attention more. On really long wait occurred at St. Maarten. I only remember, because we went on the Lord Sheffield Tall Ship Adventure. There was a small group of us doing this - I think they can only take about 25 people. The guy that picked us up asked us what took so long. He had to cancel his later group with Celebrity. I felt really bad for the tour group people because they need these ships to be on time and board people off at the right time for their excursions. This tour company had to cancel excursions for another cruise!

Getting off and on at many ports seemed a fiasco. But if a tour company starts noticing it and asking about it then something was off key. I don't think our boat had any issues arriving into port by a certain time and they would announce when the ship was cleared - which seemed very close to the time the gangway was supposed to open. Honestly - I don't know what happened. Many people on the cruise weren't happy with it.

Fortunately my husband and I like to read. If we had to wait we would just sit and read in the theatre (yes I know that sounds like a Princess thing - but that's where they had us meet too). But if I found out my excursion got cancelled because another ship couldn't get their passengers off - I'd be ticked.

Thank you so much for fixing that! And I'm sorry I took so long to post. We were moving after our vacation and it took time to settle.

What ship were you on before this? I'm really curious about them making you wait before you can leave.

Was it a RC-booked tour? I remember years ago we booked a tour through the ship and did have to wait in a lounge before we were escorted off, but we didn't need to meet until 5-10 minutes before our ticketed time to be taken off, and it was done very promptly.

But all my other experiences have been that as soon as the ship is cleared, you are free to walk off, tour or not tour scheduled.

We were in St. Martin in May and any of the RC tours just met on the pier whenever they were scheduled to leave.

Princess sometimes makes you meet in one place and then get off. Sometimes in different areas of the ship. On Princess I recall having to meet for snorkel in Kona - but was cancelled due to rough ocean. We were unable to tender.

But on Liberty of the Seas if you bought excursions with them, the tickets would say to meet in their theatre about 15 minutes before your tour was called to leave. You would have to go to the front of the theatre where they would check off your name on some list and gave us stickers to where. Then we were told to sit down and wait for our group to be called. Honestly, I never thought to just walk off and find the tour group guy. We all did this and showed up at the same time.

I don't know what happened or what went wrong but many people weren't to happy with it. And again, I really felt bad for the tour company.

I've been trying to upload my before and after pictures of our balcony with the table but it keeps failing. is there a size limit or limit on type of picture?

Okay - finally figured out how small I had to make these pictures in order to post them. Here are the before and after pictures of our balcony.

Thanks for posting. I can see where the table fits now but that would be a bit tight for me. Again.. for me. But then I get cramped at wedding tables...

cool, looks like admin found ya and is able to correct your review.

Thank goodness! And thanks for asking about it from me earlier today. I was able to email them right away to fix it. Otherwise who knows how long people would been guessing which cruise I went on. :o
