My Time Dining, or Traditional (8:30pm)?

You may be able to change it with your TA, though you will have to pay the gratuities now, even if you're put on the wait list.

 

When we found that out, we decided to wait and change to MTD when we got on the ship. We had no problems switching from late dining to MTD a couple hours after boarding.

Yeah, maybe I'll wait until we get on the ship. Like you said, if we change it now they'll charge it to our cc. We have an OBC that I was planning on using for our tips. I don't want to put an extra $$'s on my cc now. Who do you see onboard to change dining requests? Traditional dining or MTD?

I went to the MTD area of the dining room to change the dining time. There were a bunch of us changing to MTD with no problems :)

I had My Time Dining on my last 2 cruises, (Norwegian & Carnival) and found it more enjoyable & relaxing without the pressure to make small talk & chitchat over dinner with tablemates, (especially when in past experiences the topics of conversation often weren't cruise related & were people's medical problems, etc ) My husband & I don't like to hang around & chat after we eat, which we always felt obliged to do with traditional dining so as not to look rude. This way we can eat & go enjoy the casino, show & other nightlife. We didn't have to wait for a table on these cruises but the Adventure of the Seas is a much larger ship so was wondering about lines for MTD on it?

DH and I love traditional dining. We enjoy having the same wait staff and we always sit alone. But, the times of traditional could have been better, so last cruise we opted for MTD at 645.... best decision we ever made. We spoke to the head waiter and were seated with the same wait staff every night and had the luxury of doing it on our schedule.

BTW...we eat by ourselves because we either have three children with us or are child-less!

 

Callaghan that's around the same time we've booked MTD dinners on our upcoming cruise. Were you able to make the later show when dining at 6:45?

The longest we ever had to wait for MTD on the Adventure was about 5 minutes. They do a good job with managing the wait time.

What if you have a MTD ressie for 6:45 and show up a little late or not at all, is that a problem?

In the past, we had traditional dining at 6pm. The 8pm dining was just too late for us. This time, we have a toddler, so we feel like my time dining is best because it starts at 5:30pm and we can be there anytime works best for us that day. I like getting to know the same staff during traditional dining, but I like the flexibility of my time dining too.

If you know you are going to be more than 5-10 mins late...or you decided not to go to the dining room it's polite to call & cancel your reservation...it's not required but is helpful...which is one reason why I prefer NOT to make a reservation...if I'm tired & just want to grab a snack I don't have to worry about a table being held for me...I am one person who never thought they would like MTD and now find I LOVE it!

We have done MTD for the last 6 cruises and have NEVER had any issues....we just got off the Allure Sunday and we had a group of 8....the hostess accomodated our 7:30 request for every evening for a table for the 8 at the same table....if you are lucky to get Laurence & Marlon you will be in for a treat...fabulous duo wait team. On past cruises we have asked for tables for 2 as well and have never had a problem getting the time we wanted with or without a reservation and always had the same waiters every night....the only difference is you eat when you want to rather than too early or too late.

jabo73, the answer is yes. MTD tends to go a little faster, so we would just pace it as we needed it. we had to pick up little ones at AO at 10, so we had no choice. Although we did book Hairspary for 2pm, for the kiddies, most shows were booked after dinner, the exception being Hairspary and the Ice Show, both because they were "kid-frindley". Enjoy your cruise.
