Rudyard Posted July 7, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 7, 2011 I just realized that my February cruise is departing from Galveston the second weekend of Mardi Gras. How will this affect getting to the port? I've been to Galveston more times than I can count but never on a Mardi Gras weekend. Will there be street closures I need to be aware of? Will it be more crowded than usual for a Sunday morning, or will the revelers still be sleeping off Saturday night? Should I get to the port a little bit earlier than the usual arrival time for embarkation? Any advice appreciated.

Come over causeway bay bridge and go into terminal area BY 1. Immediate off onto service road and then left onto Harborside under overpass along port to terminal on left or 2. Stay on HW45 and straight into town on Broadway to say 18th street and turn left, go to Harborside, and left on Harborside and back to terminals on right. Also suggest you drop bags and others at terminals then you go to parking lots and back to terminal. # 2 is easier in my opinion !!! see INTERNET maps for visual of Greater Houston Metro and to get bearings of island galveston.com ....interact and discover.... maps Houston Map PDF Download Houston-area map in PDF Format: Houston Metro Galveston Island Map PDF Download Galveston-area map in PDF Format (note: this is a large, 11' wide, print-quality map, so please be patient): Galveston (B&W) Galveston (Color Hi-Resolution) www.mardigrasgalveston.com
auctiontx Posted August 1, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 1, 2011 The only real street that will probably be closed down on Sunday morning is the Strand. Was the past two years anyways. If you were planning on spending the night before I would suggest you book a hotel room a little earlier that you usually do. Other than that you are right about many of the revelers still sleeping off Sat night :)
