C&A Balcony Discount - Inheritance Question

Recommended Posts

After reading this thread, all I can say is "WOW"! Some people take the whole C&A Status WAY too far!

Why is it to much to expect a child to inherit benefits from their parents? Your children are either blessed or cursed with your good or bad fortunes. It happens in every aspect of life. If I belonged to a fraternity, my child would more than likely be able to pledge as a legacy for nothing more than being my child. If I belonged to a country club, my child would also more than likely be a member for nothing more than being my child. Children inherit the good and the bad from us. Children born into wealthy homes usually are more financially secure throughout their lives while children born into poor homes are more likely to be poor throughout their lives. Why should C&A status be any different?

It just seems that some C&A members feel jilted if others are given a "HIGH" status without really earning it. However, C&A is nothing more than a loyalty program. It really isn't much different than my RewardsZone membership with BestBuy. I spend money with a business, and over time they reward me for it. Let's treat C&A like that.... not at some caste system as others are trying to do! You are not superior to me because you are Diamond any more than I am superior over someone who is Platinum. You put your pants on one leg at a time just like I do. No reason to make such a big deal out of earning Diamond/Diamond+.

I am not saying that all Diamond/Diamond+ members are snobs... but there are a fair number of you out there that like to "flaunt" your status.

But they didn't have to go on the cruise -- only their parents went. They get their parents status without the cruise.

I am not debating status: someone said points should revert to zero and I said if you go on the cruise, it is silly to lose the points, even if you are a child and your parents paid. Royal is not watching who pays for what. You go on a cruise, you get points. Done.

This is an interesting debate...

Wonder what you would make of our situation. My DH and I took several cruises pre-kids, then a bunch as our adult only get aways. We are Emerald, but my Jewel cruise will make me Diamond. My girls are joining me on that cruise for their first RCI cruise ( we've taken them on other non RCI cruises and trips tho, so they are rarely left behind!). When they return from that cruise( or during) I will enroll them in C & A. It's my understanding they will be Diamond level, because they are under 18, live at home and will have my level ( as will DH, who will not be on Jewel and will be 4 nights short himself;)

So technically my girls haven't " earned" diamond. And I wonder when my oldest turns 18 6 mos after our cruise; will she still be diamond? It's an interesting question and situation!

My understanding is the 18 year old will retain her Diamond status permanently. However, in order to reach Diamond Plus, she will begin at the number of credits that she has actually earned herself. So, if after this cruise on the Jewel she has 7 credits, that will be her starting point.

I have three kids in similar situations. Two are Emerald and one is Diamond. The two Emerald kids turned 18 when we were Emerald and the third turned 18 when we were Diamond.

It seems like the program is not administered uniformly so not everyone's experience is the same.

And still the kid did NOT pay..... therefor, they did NOT fully earn the points.

Many kids work jobs during summer and even during the school year. It is not an impossibility that they could have paid for their own cruise. To withhold points from this hardworking group of kids wouldn't seem fair to me.

It has nothing to do with PAYING....it's the actual CRUISING that gets you the points and "status"....you could have WON a cruise, and accrue the points.

You don't get points when you win a cruise. Even if you pay to be upgraded to a better cabin they will not give you C&A credit for the cruise. I just thought you might like to know. There are entire threads about this subject.

Sooooo......Who gets the points? "Someone should get the points". "We surely can't waste those points".... as some would say. Winning a cruise and buying a cruise should be treated the same. The child gets to enjoy the same level of benefit as the parent, while the child is living at home. BUT, after the child leaves the nest, the child needs to establish their own status. It is only natural.

AHhhhh...that is hogwash...so did you pay or your husband:rolleyes:...maybe we should start going there.

Exactly!!!!! Does a house wife/husband or stay at home mom/dad pay for their cruise with their own money ?

Those points/credits are paid for with someone's (the parents) hard earned money. Let the kids benefit.

Here's MY take on this...

  • Parents cruise, without kids that live at home, entire family gets "points".

  • Parents cruise, WITH kids that live at home, under 18, kids get parents status PLUS points for cruise(s) they sailed on.

  • Kids turn 18, or move away from home....kids now ONLY carry points THEY'VE earned for sailings they've physically been on.

It has nothing to do with who put what on their credit card, or "paid" the bill. Credits/points are for SAILING, not for paying.

Hmm...just had another thought that COULD drive up revenue for RC...extra cruise credits for onboard spending...up to $500, gets you an extra credit. $501-1000 gets you two. $1001-2000 gets you three. Etc, etc.... but gratuities and casino are NOT included, just actual spending-drinks, excursions, dinners in pay per restaurants, shops onboard, etc... since "CA status" seems to be such a hot commodity for some, they would be spending just to "earn" credits... ;)

Airline frequent flier programs work the same way. The issue isn't who paid for the flight, it is who actually was on board the plane.

Even if you were to go by who "paid" it could be easily circumvented. You could have your kids pay and then reimburse them in cash.

Exactly correct....which is why business travelers (which is paid by the company they work for) are the ones who usually have the highest status and most perks.

It is the word "status" that infers that a C&A member more prestigious than other cruisers. Come now, you surely must be trying to get a reaction. :eek:The C&A program is strickly a loyalty program, nothing more. You truly can't be fixated on the "status" of others when you cruise. Is it your intention to sound elitest??? As a previous poster said, everyone puts their pants on one leg at a time. No one is better than another on cruises or off. :)
