This is the SIL -- I'm an experienced snorkeler with my own gear, so I don't mind hopping in the water anywhere and going way off-shore if need be ... in Cozumel, though, there is a little business called the Snorkel Center that you can leave your stuff at and hop in the water (for free) or rent gear. It's not the best snorkeling by any stretch, but there is some interesting stuff along the shore mostly. The water is very clear and it is not much different in the water than at Chankanaab, which we visited before and is a nice place to hang out ($$ a few miles the other direction from the pier). The Snorkel Center is only about a 10 minute walk toward town from the pier.

I got some info here: http://www.cozumelmycozumel.com/Pages/SnorkelingfromShore.htm

Wow nice review. I do have a question about Cozumel...I understand that you went and caught a Taxi ride into town but, where did your son-in-law snorkel? Was that in town or near the boat and how much was it? I am going there next month and would love to go around town and shop and snorkel too with out paying for an excursion...Please any info on this would help.

Can't wait for you to continue your review!!! Q:)

THURSDAY Roatan, Honduras:

We did not book an excursion today. We had originally planned to hire a driver and tour the area, but Larry & I were exhausted from the tour yesterday. We were only here from 8AM to 3PM. Kelly & Macie spent the day at the beach, Dave booked a snorkeling adventure and we bar hopped the two bars in the Mahogany Bay area. There is a small shopping area with some expensive goods. We always buy a magnet everywhere we travel. We finally found one. We happened to find a jewelry store along the way. Since we were celebrating our 32nd wedding anniversary and my 65th birthday, I got my presents while on the cruise. Larry bought me 2 Pandora charms, a fish & a sun, as well as a beautiful sea horse sterling silver necklace and earrings set with Australian opal. It is the color of the Caribbean waters. I saw a similar necklace in the jewelry shop on the Legend. It was more expensive and was not as good quality as the one we bought in Roatan.

This port is the most beautiful of any we saw. The plants are just gorgeous. The place is well maintained and very secure. Kelly said the beach was patrolled and locals were not allowed in to try to sell things to the guests. The beach was very pretty. Carnival has spent a lot of money here and it shows.

Larry and I (mostly Larry) sampled all 4 of the local beers after we shopped. I had a Coca Cola Light as it is called in Honduras. We visited the beach and walked around a bit. I bought our oldest grandson (19) a T-shirt in the beach area. We walked over to the beach instead of riding the sky lift. Macie & Kelly rode the lift and loved it. It costs $12 for an all day pass to ride. I have heard a lot of comments about the big hill from the port. I didn’t find it hard to climb at all and I am 65, and overweight with an artificial knee. If you have trouble walking, this might be a problem. When we were thinking about booking a tour, Dave found out that he could go meet the driver and they would let him in to pick us up. Guess as long as someone from the ship is with a local, you are ok.

We went back to the ship for lunch and Larry had a few more drinks. After lunch, he needed a nap so I took my Nook and found a quiet spot to read for a couple of hours. I went back to the cabin to get ready for dinner. Larry was still asleep so I went without him. He texted me during dinner that he was going to the Unicorn and then to the casino. We all met up later and went to the Follies show called The Big Easy. It was very good with lots of beautiful costumes, and scenery.

Each night after dinner, we would go and look at our photographs from the day before. Even though Dave is a professional, we bought quite a few of the pictures Carnival took. If you are going to buy any frames for the 9 x 6 pictures, get them on the ship because you cannot find a 9 x 6 frame anywhere else. We bought 4 frames for half price, $3, several days into the cruise. We also bought several photo albums which were reasonably priced at $5.95 holds 100 or $8.95 holds 200. Contrary to what I have read on CC, they did not put the pictures on sale on either of my cruises. We just bought them on the day they came out rather than waiting until the last day.

We didn’t do anything tonight except sit around and talk and sit on our balcony. This was our first balcony and I understand why cruisers say once you have one it is hard to get anything else. We ordered room service about 11:30. Larry had pastrami on rye and I had a fruit salad. It was delicious. Our towel animal was an elephant.

Another beautiful morning

How did you like Assistant Cruise Director James Dunn? I think he took over right after you left ?

Our Assistant CD was a British lady named Bonnie. Our CD was named James but I don't know his last name. I thought somebody said they were changing CDs but no announcement was made.

Thanks. The time will fly by. I think Dave booked our cruise in late Oct last year. I occupied myself by reading everything I could on CC. Kelly & Dave would ask a question on the cruise and I would have the answer. They got a kick out of that.

Miss Macie has been looking at Carnival.com and announced that she wants to go on the Dream next year. Guess we will be Dreaming the Eastern route next year. I hope.

Great review.....love all the pics, the dw and I will be on the Legend in Oct. .

I do however have an issue with your son in law....could he not have gotten a job at the University of Virginia....go hoos go......great review. Rob:D

Dangerous territory there, Rob. We are all die hard Hokie fans, plus Dave & Kelly are VT alumni. Glad you are enjoying my ( actually mine & Dave's review). Go Hokies!!:p A little rivalry is good. Happy cruising to your and your DW.

Really enjoying your excellent review and the professional pictures. We sailed on the Legend last November and reading your review is almost like sailing again. Thank you for taking the time and effort to share your adventure. I also hope your cousin is doing well and she will be in my thoughts and prayers. ;)

Thanks for your kind words. My SIL Dave is a great photographer. The pictures tell the story most of the time. I visited my cousin and she looks and feels much better than she did before I went on the cruise. Thanks for your prayers. We both appreciate them.

I started reading your review this morning and had to run the cat to the vets. And then DH wated to watch mvies all afternoon, so I had to wait til 11 p.m. to finally get back to it. These are wonderful pictures and a great review. Where did your SIL snorkel in Roatan? We did not end up getting into Mahogany Bay when we cruised on the Legend, and had no shore excursion planned, but we will be on the Legend again next year and would love a good snorkeling spot. Thanks, marshhawk:)
