How do I print my boarding pass to come home?

It all depends on the airline. When we fly, it is usually either Delta or AA. When printing out our boarding passes for the flight to the cruise, they both let us print out the ones for the return. If it is Southwest, you do have to pay attention to the 24 hour rule or get Early Bird or Biz Select fares.

Not sure about Airtran, Spirit, or United/Continental since I don't fly them. (no service from out here) But I would expect United/Continental to do the same as AA, DL, and Alaska.

I fly AA also but have never been able to get return flight boarding passes. So based on your post I double checked the AA site to verify it's only possible when outbound & return flights are within 24 hours of each other.

Per AA "Customers traveling with e-tickets who have return flights within 24 hours of departure may check in for both outbound and return flight segments at the same time."

Maybe Mapsmith misspoke?

Continental has the same 24 hour boarding pass rule, but check-in for the return segment is offered during the on line booking process.

Possibly the same with Delta and AA?

Sorry for the persistent Continental references, but in Houston it's pretty much either Continental or SWA.:p

We flew UA last month & we're currently out of town on DL but neither offered to check-in & print boarding passes for our return flight when checking in for our outbound flight. That would be convenient & certainly would be nice to do. Airline procedures are not easy to determine but I have read that if oversold & there's the need to involuntary bump someone it's done by check-in time. Although there are usually enough volunteers willing to take compensation to give up their seat so it's rare to involuntarily bump anyone.

We use EZ Check and it is the best money spent. Walk off the ship with some light carry on luggage, no searching for luggage in the terminal, grab a cab and off to the airport. They take care of printing your boarding pass and it is delivered the night before. Best of all you don't see your luggage from the time you put it in the hall until you get to your home airport. So much easier than lugging it and standing in line at the airport.

Now I misspoke!

The return check in offer is made while checking in for the first segment, NOT when booking.

Sorry about that.

I flew on American Airlines yesterday from Vegas to Dallas and there a hand full of people who already had reservations and failed to check in. Their seats were given to other passengers as the flight was oversold.

Just because you have a reservation don't expect to have your seat! If the flight is oversold and you have not "CHECKED IN" then you run the risk of not having a seat on your flight. If the flight is oversold they will generally ask for customers to volunteer to give up their seat in exchange for vouchers..etc..

So it isn't so much as PRINTING THE BOARDING PASS, the "CHECKING IN YOUR FLIGHT" is the big issue!!!

So, if you will not have access to check in 24 hours before your flight is to depart, I highly recommend bothering and involving your family if you want to be sure you get that ride home. Or using your mobile device to check in and then print your boarding pass inside the terminal.

All airlines have different requirements regarding checking in and their cut-off times. Don't be left behind!

AMERICAN AIRLINES:

DOMESTIC TRAVEL

In addition to checking in 30 minutes before departure, you must be present at the departure gate and ready to board at least 15 minutes prior to scheduled departure time to retain your reservation and a seat.

For customers checking baggage, cutoff time for baggage check-in is 30 minutes before departure for all airports in the U.S., Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands with the following exceptions:

Flights departing Baggage Acceptance Cutoff Time

Anchorage, Alaska (ANC) 40 minutes

Atlanta, Georgia (ATL) 40 minutes

Chicago O'Hare, Illinois (ORD) 40 minutes

Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas (DFW) 40 minutes

Denver, Colorado (DEN) 45 minutes

Las Vegas, Nevada (LAS) 45 minutes

Los Angeles, California (LAX) 45 minutes

Miami, Florida (MIA) 45 minutes

Newark, New Jersey (EWR) 40 minutes

New York (JFK) 45 minutes

Orlando, Florida (MCO) 40 minutes

San Francisco, California (SFO) 40 minutes

San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU) 40 minutes

St. Croix, U.S Virgin Islands (STX) 45 minutes

St. Thomas, U.S Virgin Islands (STT) 60 minutes

Tampa, Florida (TPA) 40 minutes

Washington Dulles, District of Columbia (IAD) 40 minutes

SOUTHWEST AIRLINES

An oversale takes place when more confirmed Customers check in ontime and show up for the flight than our aircraft will accommodate, leaving one or more confirmed Customers without a seat.

We realize that everyone has a reason to travel. At the same time, we understand that many travelers are fairly flexible insofar as their departure and arrival times are concerned. When a flight oversells, the first thing our Customer Service Agents do is ask those who have checked in and received a boarding pass if they are willing to volunteer to take a later flight. Southwest does not involuntarily deny boarding to any Customer who is holding a boarding pass, regardless of fare purchased, staus in our frequent flyer program, or for any other reason.

Can I check in with my web-enabled device?

Yes, you can check in, change your flight, check flight status and even rent a car!

Once you have checked in for your flight via your mobile device, simply proceed to the airport and go to the nearest E-Ticket Check-In kiosk to print your boarding pass. The system will recognize that you have already checked in for your flight, therefore, you will need to request a reprint of your boarding pass. The boarding pass will reflect the boarding group that was indicated on the checkin confirmation screen on your mobile device. You may also get your boarding pass at the Ticket Counter, Skycap, or online at southwest.com.

Late Check-In:

When checking luggage, allow sufficient time for it to be placed on your flight. Luggage checked less than 30 minutes before scheduled departure at curbside or at the ticket counter will be tagged with a Late Check-In Tag. The following airports now require a 45-minute baggage checkin or the baggage will be considered Late Checked:

Baltimore/Washington International (BWI)

Chicago Midway (MDW)

Denver (DEN)

Las Vegas (LAS)

Los Angeles (LAX)

Phoenix (PHX)

Orlando (MCO)

Washington Dulles (IAD)

Although every effort will be made to get late checked baggage on your flight, in the event your baggage does not arrive with you at your destination, Southwest will not assume delivery charges to get your baggage to you.
