Disembarking in Venice and where to leave luggage?

On a previous thread it was mentioned the latest on leaving the ship was around 9.30am. We are on Quest arriving Venice 6.00am 13th Aug. Is it possible to stay on board longer maybe have lunch with prior arrangement? Our checkin at airport is 18.00pm. Also is there a secure luggage deposit at st Basilo terminal. We can leave bags and come back later. Need some advice. Cheers

There is NOTHING at the San Basilio Cruise Terminal.

It may (or may not) be possible to negotiate some extra time on the ship. The Azamara staff will be helpful if they can, BUT RCCL policy is to "zero out" the ship, before they let the new passengers on.

"Zeroing out" is a requirement in some ports (like the USA, where cruise lines -like everyone else- must deal with TSA and "Homeland Security" personnel with the intelligence of Cantaloupes), but Italy could care less.

There is a small shop about 200 meters to the right of the cruise terminal entrance, just before the Vaporetto dock. Maybe they could help.

Otherwise:

(a) San Basilio can be reached by road - taxi

(b) Azamara generally has a free white shuttle bus to Piazzale Roma, where there are luggage storage facilities. (Look for a "deposito bagagli", or left-luggage office, opposite the ACTV ticket office (next to the Pullman Bar). To check hours and prices ahead of time, phone the Cooperativa Trasbagagli at 0415231107 or e-mail info@trasbagagli.it.

© A vaporetto goes from the San Basilio stop to the main train station, where there are also storage facilities. BUT It is much easier to get to the airport from Piazzale Roma

LUGGAGE STORAGE

At Piazzale Roma is available a service of custody and storage of the luggage, daily from 6.00 AM to 9.00 PM at the cost of € 5,00 per piece for each 24h from the delivery, to allow our customers in transit to be able to move freely in town.

Tel: 0415231107

In the airport, inside the arrivals hall close to the post office, the storage service is available daily from 5.00 AM to 9.00 PM at the cost of € 5,50 per piece for each 24h from the delivery.

Truly if all else fails the luggage holding facility at the train station is wonderful and one of the few moderately inexpensive things you can do in Venice.

You could take the train to Maestre station and catch a cab to the airport so this might be an option to consider.

Thank you so much. Either the airport or Pizzale Roma for luggage. Just good to know we can leave it without worry. As for the ship. I have heard it being arranged but can understand the customs clearance and security checks. Cheers

I got off Quest in Civitavecchia 2 days ago. As we had a late evening flight home we were offered the option of staying onboard until 12:30 pm, with lunch included and a shuttle transfer to the airport - all for an amazing $20 each. We had booked our airport transfer as part of our cruise price so we did not have to pay again for the transfer.

We thought this was an excellent deal and were very happy with the way Azamara arranged it. You do have to vacate your stateroom room at 08:30 am though, but can use any of the public rooms and have coffee etc.

Well worth it and our cruise was simply amazing. Can't wait for the next one! :D

Last year we had an overnight in Venice (at SB) on the Journey. When we left the ship the following morning we were directed by the staff in the baggage collection area to a left luggage area where they stored our bags for the day. They also introduced us to a taxi driver who came back to pick us up at 4:00 PM and drove us directly to the airport. It was all very easy and efficient and gave us an extra lovely day in Venice. I believe the charge was 4 or 5 Euro per bag to have them locked up at left baggage. By the way there were no signs so you will need to ask. Good luck.

There is left luggage at the cruise terminal or at Piazzale Roma. I would suggest PR is easier as it saves you having to go back to the cruise terminal and you catch the bus to the airport from PR.
