greentea81 Posted July 23, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 23, 2011 Our cruise will disembark in Venice in early October and our flight will be at 2:20pm (i.e will need to be at the airport by 12:20pm). We have a few questions: 1) We want to make use of the few hours in the morning to tour a little more. Is there any luggage storage after we get off the ship? We don't want to be dragging the luggage. 2) How early do stores open/restaurants...just wondering if anything will be open if we get off the ship early in the morning (in order to get a few hours before our flight)? 3) How long would it take to get to the airport and what are the best ways (less expensive options) to get there (for 2 people and each will probably have a medium sized luggage)
mapleleaves Posted July 23, 2011 #2 Share Posted July 23, 2011 There is storage at the pier but the hours are limited. I'd suggest storage at Piazzale Roma since that's where you will get transportation to the airport. Be sure to confirm the storage hours. http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/articles/venice-left-luggage.htm We used the ATVO airport express bus. A 15-20 minute ride to the airport, 5E. Greyhound style buses with luggage hold underneath. Buses leave at 20 and 50 after the hour from signpost D2. www.atvo.it I strongly suggest you get there AT LEAST 2 hrs before your flight. We had 2 flights out of Venice; barely made the first one. The departures area is a zoo, especially now that Treviso Airport closed. When we left Venice for the 2nd flight, it was around 9am and the stores in our area were just opening up.
greentea81 Posted July 23, 2011 Author #3 Share Posted July 23, 2011 Thanks for the info! Where do you buy tickets for the ATVO airport express bus? Could we purchase the tickets when we drop off the luggage in the morning or do we purchase just before we board the bus?
mapleleaves Posted July 23, 2011 #4 Share Posted July 23, 2011 There's an ATVO office at Piazzale Roma. As you enter the square from the People Mover, there's a row of shops on your left. It's in there. This might help you get your bearings. It shows the cruise terminal, the green line is the PMover, Piazzale Roma and the mouth of the Grand Canal. http://www.vtp.it/terminal/crociere.jsp
