rabbit2011 Posted July 25, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 25, 2011 We are taking one NB cruise from Vancouver to Whittier in August. We are planning for one helicopter glacier landing tour in Juneau. After that, we have one day at Anchorage. Do you think it is necessary to take one flight tour to Mt. Mckinley? Will that be a duplicate? Plus it is pretty expensive from Anchorage ($375 per person). Moreover, after several days of glacier watching on the cruise, do you think it is necessary to attend the Prince William Sound Cruise at Whittler? Thanks a lot for any suggestions~~
Budget Queen Posted July 25, 2011 #2 Share Posted July 25, 2011 If you are "questioning" these tours, because they are so popular and mentioned as "must dos", but you don't have the interest, then certainly they can all be skipped. I am making assumptions based on your "necessary" comment. Are these of interest to you? If you want to see McKinley, then that is your opportunity, by expensive flightseeing. There is NO comparism to the glacier viewing from a boat tour, compared to your cruiseship. IF you have the interest in extensive, close up viewing, superior to the cruiseship, then this is an excellent tour choice.
uncleah Posted July 25, 2011 #3 Share Posted July 25, 2011 The problem with McKinley could be the weather. It is possible to fly up there and still not see it very well. If you check with the tour operator you will probably find that there is no guarantee. You could also have weather problems with a heli landing but you have a better chance of that happening. It is a great experience. Have a great time.
