GRENADA need help with beach please

Denboy may be able to help out better if he sees this, but we just returned from Grenada last week and took Mandoo's Tour (www.grenadatours.com) where we ended up at Mourne Rouge Bay. It had the warmest waters of our entire trip. It also has a small beach restaurant as well. Did not get bothered by vendors and there were probably less than 50 people total there. The main tourist beach is Grand Anse, so if you're looking for privacy, that probably would not be the one to go to, although I've read it's very nice.

The most popular and closest beach is Grand Anse where the majority of taxis drop their passengers by the Vendors Market. Consequently this part of the beach gets crowded and attracts the beach vendors who some people find annoying although a polite "no thank you" is usually enough for them to move on. If you want to go to Grand Anse either take a walk along the beach away from St. George or beter still ask your taxi to drop you off near the Hotel Allamanda where there is much less crowding.

A little further on past the next point as mentioned by pcumberl is Morne Rouge which is frequented more by islanders being more isolated.

Another good beach is situated by the Aquarium restaurant accessed up behind the airport and is fairly quiet due to the Rex Grenadian hotel being closed for refurbishment following Hurricane Ivan.

However for a romantic beach you have to travel a little further so it really depends on how much time you have available.La Sagesse (pronounced Lass-a-gers) is a beautiful curved sandy beach about 30 minutes drive from St. George situated within a nature reserve.Being that little bit further away it does not attract a huge number of people leaving you to enjoy its beauty in peace and quiet.

pcumberl,

You mentioned ending up at morune Rouge Beach. Could you tell us how you liked it and especially, did you do any snorkeling or see anyone snorkeling? Wer chairs and umbrellas available? Also, how much was the cab ride to get there?

Thanks in Advance ;)

We ended up there as part of Mandoo's tour (www.grenadatours.com), so don't know what the cab fare would be, although it isn't all that far from the cruise ships (one beach further away than Grand Anse, which is the main tourist beach near the ships), so couldn't be all that much. We really liked the beach though. We were there about 2 hours and although loungers were availabe for rent (no umbrellas that I could see), we didn't use them and sat near the back of the beach in some shade provided by a palm tree. Didn't see anyone snorkeling but the water was nice and warm there.

The Aquarium Restaurant is the islands best independant restaurant and sits on it's own beach that is empty, expect for a few lunch custormers and the rare cruise ship passenger that's smart enough to have read this thread.

You can snorkel right along the beach. Dive boats leave from their beach and can be arranged in advance. The beers are resonable, the view is divine, and they have their own beach chairs so you can spend time in the sun or in the shade on the sand or sit on the open air deck and relax.

I recommend the Pumpkin & Ginger Soup, the Aquarium Medley- shrimp, scallop and fish, each lightly grilled and presented in individual sauces, the Callaloo Spanakopita with fresh basil pesto and their fresh fish special.
