Open or Fixed seating for party of 16 (including a 4 & 6 y.o.)

We are on a family vacation on the Oosterdam, 7 days, to Alaska on Sept. 4th, ages 4-84. 16 of us total. We all asked for Open Seating when we reserved.

We would like to all sit together at dinner maybe only once or twice during the cruise (not on formal nights).

I know we can only change our seating option once. I realize they normally only have tables set for 10, but also have tables of 8 side by side. We would be requesting a 5:30'ish time.

Finally, my question: Which dining venue (Open or early Fixed) would be best to 1) accomodate 16 seats, and 2) accept a reservation/request?

I appreciate anyone who has experienced this type of situation and feel we would benefit from your knowledge and experience.

Being as your cruise is just 3 weeks away I doubt you can get tables to seat all 16 of you near each other at the 5:45 fixed dining time.

You would be best to have the Open Seating where you can make reservations for 5:30 for 3 days at a time - and you have a good chance to get the tables close together.
