Help with Villefranche/Nice visit

I am not very happy with the excursions the ship has to offer. My group will NOT go it alone (do it yourself). Has anyone used a tour company that you can recommend?

Read down on this board as there is a lot of info here regarding tours by private companies.

We have decided to do the ship offered Nice & Monaco DIY..Doesn't seem with using ship transportation the DIY portion is going to be very difficult once they get you to these two places from what I've read on these boards The price sounds reasonable (76.00pp)...Very interested in the price you come up with for a private tour...Please report back...

Ok, here is what I have found out so far.

I got an email from someone here on CC who recommended a company called Revelation Tours, so I emailed them. They answered this morning and their rates for up to 8 people is 600 (75 pp) euros. They will create a tour for us to cover everything we want to see for the day we are there.

I am still waiting to hear if Silvie is available.

The tour is for 8 hours, the itinerary is decided between you and the tour guide. The cost is 600 euro whether you have one or 8 people. Of course if you have 8 people, it's cheaper per person. This is not including tip.

One nice thing, they don't want your money upfront. They do ask that if you reserve with them, please show up. They had 10 no shows last month and its hard for a small business to survive when people do that.

Hi Pam

Well, we maybe interested if you don't mind. :) We are mainly looking at Monaco and Eze - we thought of doing it by bus ( no probs on our own and good to keep costs down;)), but I like private tours too, as there is nothing quite like a local guide. Either way, if you could keep us in mind, that'd be great. We'll check out the price and her itinerary and let you know what we reckon:D

Cheers

Melissa

Melissa, send me an email when you get a moment please.

Silvie has yet to respond back. I am not sure what the problem is, if she has another tour that day or what.

Revelation Tours emailed back and I posted their info.

There is a company called Dream Tours also. Has anyone used them?

Hi Pam:p

I have just emailed a tour group called Riviera Premium Tours, who have been recommended. They have a special on at the moment for 8 people, costing 61 pp, ( including soft drinks) for an 8 hour tour- you have 2 to select from there. Victor is one of the fave guides. Might be worth a look eh? I have also seen recommendations for Dream Tours, hopefully someone might give us a heads up on that one soon.

Cheers

Melissa

We just returned from Med/Venice cruise. While we were in Villefranche, we used Ingrid from Kultours. She was awesome. She will customize a tour for you. You can even change the tour as you go if you want. She speaks 4 languages (her English is excellent). Her fee was 500Euro (9 hour tour) for up to 7 people. Her van only holds 7 people. If you have less people, then she charges less.

We found her because we emailed Sylvie and she was already booked, so she recommended Ingrid. We ended up going to Nice, Antibes, St Paul, and Monaco/Monte Carlo. We were going to go to Eze but didn't because it was a lot of walking and it was similar to St. Paul and time was running short.

Her email address is schmucki@club-internet.fr . You can google Kultours and it will give you recommended tours. Hope this helps.

Can you tell me, while touring Monaco/Monte Carlo, did you have to walk the mile uphill or were they able to drop you closer to the palace and/or casino?

Thanks heaps guys for that info, it's a real help:D I am amazed she charges less for less people - that's a first. Usually it's a set price and the less people the more it costs per head!!

Cheers for that!!

Ingrid dropped us off right in front of the Monte Carlo Casino ... with all the Bentley's surrounding us. There is a shopping mall right there too and another lesser known casino and gelato :). She picked us up there too. There were no hills. There was about 10 low steps to get into the casino. I'm sure she would drop you off and pick you up where ever you would like.

Thanks!! Mom is wanting to see the Palace and Cathedral also, but I found out today that they can't drop you near them. You have a fairly long walk uphill. In fact the email stated they discourage folks from going to "Old Town".

Back to the drawing board for me. Good thing I have a few days to decide!! lol

  • 1 month later...

I booked a tour with Dream Tours for our upcoming cruise. All was well until I e-mailed to confirm the day & time. They did not have my group listed for a tour and were now fully booked They said that I had not sent them a list of the passengers. I have the e-mail they sent saying they only needed my personal info (which I sent!) I also have the e-mail welcoming me & my group with details of times , driver name etc. All of this gets me nowhere so I am now on this board looking for another tour company on VERY short notice. I have contacted Kultours and am waiting for a reply. Everyone I have contacted so far has been booked.

Wish me luck & make sure to reconfirm at least once!

Currently looking for a private tour for our trip next summer.

I'm bumping up hoping that some of the ones on here have gone on their trip and can give some feedback.

We used Revelation Tours when we were in Cannes. Went to Nice, Eze and St. Paul de Vence. It was a fabulous day. We shared the cost with others from our Roll Call. I can give Revelation my highest recommendation. Check them out:

Enjoy your time on the French Riviera, it is beautiful!

I can't say enough about Exclusive Riviera!

At the last minute we decided to book a private driver from Villifranche, rather than DIY. By far, company owner Michele provided us with the best day of our entire 12 day cruise (and this is in comparison with three other top-rated companies we used).

We used Revelation Tours last April and I also highly recommend them.

We went to Eze, Monaco, Monte Carlo in an easy-paced 6 hours, and she made a couple of photo-op stops too.

I think the OP already sailed, but we saw the palace & cathedral, and I don't remember any hills ? She dropped us off near the palace, parked the car, and came back for us & we went into the town, then on to the casino. I hope she got to see what you wanted to! Mentioning this for the benefit of others.

My aunt & uncle are in their 70s with various joint replacements and aren't speediest walkers, but they were able to tour there, and even climb up Eze. Slow but sure!

A big advantage to a private tour - yes, it may cost more, but it's at your pace, and you don't have to worry about rushing to a bus stop then trying to find your train & climbing up stairs to get to the elevator etc. especially for those with mobility issues.
