If you get to the port of miami on your own, can you bring your luggage on board or does it have to be checked and delivered to your cabin later?

 

also, doen anyone know if the aqua boats in grand cayman have to be booked thru rci or can you book them on your own

You check the big pieces with the porters at the terminal. They only let you take your carry-ons onboard with you as they have to go through airport type scanners.

As long as your bags will fit through a scanner, you can bring them on. Keep in mind that sometimes the scanners have a template over them that makes them look as if the opening is smaller, but that template can be lifted to accomodate larger pieces. Also, you may be able to ask for a hand search if you insist on bringing luggage on board that won't fit through the scanner, but you will probably get a difficult time if you do, and I will probably get flamed for suggesting it.

Yes, the scanners themselves are a little larger than at the airport, but in January security was turning people away at the door who wanted to carry larger pieces on with them and making them check them with the porters out front.

Just check the bigger ones with the porters and carry on the smaller ones. :)

All your luggage is going to go through a scanner one way or another before it gets to your cabin. Check the big pieces and take anything you might need for the first day/night in your smaller carryon luggage.

Just remember that if you board before 1ish, your cabin may not be ready and you'll have to carry those bags around the ship!
