morecruise4me Posted August 14, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 14, 2011 First time to both of these islands. Is there good snorkeling anywhere, either from the beach or from booking a boat excursion? Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
Larwoman Posted August 24, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 24, 2011 DH, DS, DD and myself did this excursion in back in 2007 and we all really enjoyed it.
Wild Bill Posted August 24, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 24, 2011 In St Croix, right at the end of the pier, is where we snorkeled, and it was Great! It was a few years ago, when we were there last, but hopefully it hasn't changed any.
gerryl12 Posted August 25, 2011 #4 Share Posted August 25, 2011 Spent a week in St. Maartens and didn't find any good snorkeling and the scuba diving was ok.
Wayfairers Posted August 25, 2011 #5 Share Posted August 25, 2011 The water is beautiful in St Maarten but snorkeling isn't that great. Never been to St Croix.
Stevesan Posted August 26, 2011 #6 Share Posted August 26, 2011 Snorkeling Buck Island at St Croix is marvelous experience. The underwater trail is nearly cathedral like. http://www.gotostcroix.com/buck_island.php

The underwater trail is nearly cathedral like. http://www.gotostcroix.com/buck_island.php Did you use one of the listed companies for getting there? If so, how many were on the boat/tour? We bring our own gear. Is there any way to get to Buck Island without a tour?

Thanks

Is there any way to get to Buck Island without a tour? I took the ship's snorkel trip. It's a longish trip to the pier and not many people signed up. Even if the boat had been crowded (which it wasn't), Most of the time is spent in the water. it's a short sail from the dock to the island. morecruise4me Posted November 9, 2011 Author #12 Share Posted November 9, 2011 Thanks everyone...booked Big Beard's in St. Croix. Looking at Pinel Island in St. Maarten. Anyone been there?
abitaturbodog Posted November 11, 2011 #13 Share Posted November 11, 2011 We snorkeled at Pinel Island a couple of years ago. The water can be really rough on that side of the island and we were pushed around quite a bit. It was also very milky, probably because it was so rough. Hopefully, you'll have better luck. We like to snorkel at Little Divi Bay, all the way to the left. You'll see snorkel excursion boats anchored off the beach, by the old fort.
