tipping???

What is the tipping procedure when touring with DenRus or Red October in St. Petersburg? What percent is appropriate and how is it divided between driver and guide?

You will find a wide variety of theories on this, but here is what we did when our family group of 9 people took a 2 day tour. We tipped $20 per person and gave 2/3 to the guide ($120) and 1/3 to the driver ($60.) That seemed like a very fair amount, considering that a month's salary might only be $100 or so. However I was a little upset when I later met a Russian citizen who was visiting the United States. She told me that the tour agency probably took a cut of the tips. I don't know if that is true, but I hope it is not!

There are a few of us sailing on the STAR PRINCESS, 2 September.

The SIX OF US will be seeing Lovely St. Petersburg on:

 

Tues. 6 Sept. 2005 through Wed. 7 Sept.

Other pax may want to join us but we now cannot solicit for friends to tour with us on the Baltics Board.
