stevedeccaman Posted August 16, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 16, 2011 Not knocking RCL but this is a recent extract from someone who was on the floating trafford centre at sea (Oasis of the Seas ) One of the largest at the moment I understand , 7000 passengers etc pre book shows , wine packages, tips etc ...read on Oasis of the Seas features 24 distinct dining experiences, ranging from an exclusive signature restaurant, to neighborhood-specific themed venues, and new twists on Royal Caribbean's traditional dining areas. "By far, our biggest disappointment on this cruise was the lack of service and the presence of serious attitude from the concierge staff. The 2 concierge sat behind their desks, never mingled w/ guests, did not proactively provide information on services/benefits and could not assist w/ issues. We were never greeted by name and their snooty attitude was unreal. I needed help w/ something 3 times (booking a cabana, making a specialty dining reservation, and moving a showtime) and I consistently felt as though I was bothering them. Have questions w/ the Luggage Valet program - ask your room steward. Need help with the Espresso machine? Read the instructions. Show was cancelled due to weather and your newly scheduled time doesn't work (b/c concierge rescheduled during dinner)? Wait in standby line. Having trouble with the internet? Read the instructions" Think we will stay with Thomsom  ps RCL do not allow you to take any drink on board  ps my motto is plan your work and work your plan and if we ever win the lottery would still go with Thomson (suite of course ) best ships for a good time :) But my is that opinon .as people say everyone has different views/ tastes thats it ,......... no i do not work for Thomson  Happy cruising to you all (whatever cruise line you use ) Stevie any comments.......... Jim you there ? :D
Julessmiles Posted August 16, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 16, 2011 Well said, Stevie! Friends of ours have recently come back from a floating tower block - it sounds awful - they had a "wonderful parade" of Disney characters every day, climbing walls, surf lessons, ice rinks - we've got teens but I (and they) would absolutely hate all that. Each to their own and I hope Thomson stay the way they are :)

bds1958 Posted August 18, 2011 #9 Share Posted August 18, 2011 We're off on the Spirit tomorrow out of Corfu. We also like a friendly "ship" and not a "mini town". Trying to persuade my wife to let me book the Dream next year. Probably have her blessings after this cruise.

yorkshirephil Posted August 19, 2011 #11 Share Posted August 19, 2011 We have always enjoyed Thompson cruises for the atmosphere and fun. The ships are a nice size, albeit dated. However last year we cruised on IOTS, after saying we would never cruise on a ship of that size. We had a fantastic cruise, albeit there were over 4000 pax it was still so friendly. The best ship I have cruise on.
