DiploTraveler Posted August 23, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 23, 2011 Anyone dress up their 1-2 year-old in a tux for formal night? I'm booked on two cruises this year. My son will be about 15 months and I think it'd be cute if daddy and son are in tuxes. I don't even know where to get those kinds of outfits for him, though... notentirelynormal Posted August 23, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 23, 2011 Well, my DS was a little older but he had tuxes designed for kids. My 4 YO grandson wore a tux complete with cumberbund, tie and he brought black gloves that he insisted on wearing. He called it his "wedding suit". The second formal night he didn't want to wear it because according to him, he had already got married the first night. He wore his suit instead. The girls wore their dressy gowns. ehough Posted August 23, 2011 #4 Share Posted August 23, 2011 DS was 11 months on our last cruise and he wore a tux (which I was able to re-use a few times for weddings, so it was nice to have). $20 brand new on Ebay! Search for "toddler tux" there and you should find some reasonable options. Here is a pic- he didn't keep the jacket on long but it did have one. I know some people are not fans of tennis shoes with formal attire, but I think that it keeps it fun and kid like.
ehough Posted August 23, 2011 #6 Share Posted August 23, 2011 The shoes weren't even necessarily on purpose. :) He has XW feet and I was not about to buy XW dress shoes for one occasion. If he had regular feet I'd have been happy to pick up a used pair but XW is hard to find, and expensive to boot (no pun intended)!
RizzoLee Posted August 23, 2011 #7 Share Posted August 23, 2011 We have a suit for our then 9mo for our next cruise. :) DH is rolling his eyes at me as I'm making him wear a suit as well. :)
Julienatul Posted August 24, 2011 #8 Share Posted August 24, 2011 I got one on ebay for my son for 12.99 brand new. We cruise twice a year so for $6 a cruise its a steal!! He looks adorable in it. https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/gyPT4tTwt4QB_MDx-e_TTA?feat=directlink
paryea Posted August 24, 2011 #9 Share Posted August 24, 2011 I also dressed our son in a tux for both our cruises. He was about 15 mos for the first and 2.5 on the second. I got it on Ebay and it was a little big for the first one and a little small for the second. I don't remember exactly how much I paid, but I'm sure it was around $20. They look adorable and are a lot of fun.
Julie Jean Posted August 24, 2011 #10 Share Posted August 24, 2011 Not a tux - but have had a kilt, sporran and jacobite shirt made for my 7 month old son - he goes on his first cruise next month!:D
B_Mc Posted August 25, 2011 #11 Share Posted August 25, 2011 This time I might look into it for my almost 2 yr old, but no way did I do that for an almost 1 yr old!
Pacclady Posted August 25, 2011 #12 Share Posted August 25, 2011 Little boys look fabulous in tuxes...especially with tails! (The hat was his idea.)
Smithkids5521 Posted August 25, 2011 #13 Share Posted August 25, 2011 What an adorable idea...I think the only thing that could posibly be any cuter than a little boy in a tux would be a little boy in one of those adorable sailor outfits! ;)
DiploTraveler Posted August 27, 2011 Author #14 Share Posted August 27, 2011 Thanks everyone for the advice and pictures! I'll have to check out Ebay ASAP. Our first cruise is in just about two weeks!!! :-D
cyntil8ing Posted August 28, 2011 #15 Share Posted August 28, 2011 My son has gotten three years, and four cruises, out of his tux that I bought on eBay when he was 2. It's finally time to retire it as it's way too short.
