Attire Med Cruise

Recommended Posts

Good Morning:

I know that a conservative attire is recommended on the Rome and Florence tours. But can my husband wear bermudas on the other ports? I checked the RCCL website and for the Cannes, Kusadasi, Mykonos, Athens and also Naples tours they don't mention any attire restrictions. We will travel in the beginning of June. I appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks;

Lydia

I think a nice pair of "bermudas" would be acceptable in other ports, but I would wear light pants instead in any port that may include a stop at a church, especially Rome and Florence. That goes for women as well... a skirt or slacks instead of shorts... nothing sleeveless.

My husband wore light cargo pants, the ones where you can zip off the lower leg, that way if we had to go into a church he had his pants with him. This was quite popular, there were quite a few men zipping their pants on and off at the side of the churches. some churches said 'no shorts' no matter what length. Italy has the most restrictions. I myself, lived in capri's.

When we were in the Med in 2003, the rules in Italy were not as strict as they are now but I was able to go everywhere we visited including the churches with shorts that extended down below my knees. I had found two pair with cargo pockets specifically because I had read about the problems getting into churches with knees exposed.

We did see people, men and women, turned away in Venice from entering St Marks because of the length of their shorts. My wife also wore capri pants although she generally refuses to wear them and had no problem with them.

The pants that can be converted to zip off shorts are probably the best way to go to be assured of getting in. Also women need to not have tops that are too revealing, shoulders or midsection exposed, for instance. You can be rejected for that reason also.

Have a great next cruise.

It depends on what you want to ENTER.

In Rome and Florence I would advise long pants, skirts and covered shoulders. You will want to go in the churches and museums and there is a big chance that you will be turned away if you don't conform. In Cannes, unless you are going in a church, no problem. We visited Nice, Monte Carlo and Monaco. I was in shorts. I knew ahead of time that I wouldn't be allowed in the Casino. No problem, it wasn't on our list of places to visit. However, we had extra time in Monaco and I would have liked to visit the Cathedral. It was late in the evening and I talked to the security guard at the door. He was gracious enough to let me visit. If I visit Monaco again, I'll wear long pants.

In Greece there appears to be no problem with short. Mykonos, Santorini and Athens.

In Naples it again depends on what you want to see. A tour of the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, no problem. Visit the Duomo downtown, I doubt that you'll be allowed in.

Bermuda shorts and regular shorts are all the same to Europeans. They're just shorts.

In Barcelona, you can wear shorts during the day, no problem, unless you want to visit the cathedrals, then it could be a problem. In the evening you would look out of place, but will be OK,

Voyageur, Marika, wwinfl91 and Jbond:

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question, I think that my husband will use bermuda shorts in Greece and long pants in France and Italy.

Thanks again;

Lydia
