Currency in Israel - Can you use $ or Euro's?

I was on a 2 week tour in Israel earlier this year. Although I did use an ATM to get their local currency (NIS New Israeli Shekel), some small shops did accept small currency (ie dollar bills). Many try to bargain in the US currency. Although you can expect that they mightl give you change in NIS (if you don't have exact change) as they may not carry much US currency. Generally, I found, you will do better from an exchange rate with their currency vs using the US dollar. I charged a few larger purchases and found a much better exchange rate than when I left (and used to estimate my charges).

I know the Silhouette just got back from Israel and their currency is the schilling. Would any restaurants, snack stands, stores, etc. except $ or Euros?

I just got NIS from my bank. Good exchange rate and no charge. Arrived within 3 days after ordering them online.
