Dawn - August 26th sailing - any news?

Has NCL indicated what itinerary the NCL Dawn will be sailing tomorrow with Hurricane Irene heading up the East Coast and expected to be off the Carolinas on Saturday? I suppose she could sail due East from Boston and approach Bermuda on the far side of the storm. Not sure that heading north to Canada would be a great idea with the hurricane on her heels heading the same way.

Any thoughts or any news?

As of right now, NCL is saying no change to any weekend cruises and will continue to update. I think since the storm is not due here until late Monday or later, she will sail as scheduled and skirt the storm.

Not sure where your "here" is, but NC is expecting the storm on Saturday and NYC and Boston are due to be visited by Irene, late Saturday into Sunday, a cruise from Boston to Bermuda that is due to leave on Friday would be heading right into the teeth of the storm. If I were traveling tomorrow I would be paying very close attention to any updates from NCL and would plan on being flexible as to the destination of my cruise ship.

I have been told there is no change to the itinerary.

The typical route for the Dawn is to travel around Cape Cod and head SE toward Bermuda...

If you go to, you can see the historical tracks of the cruise:

The Bermuda cruise that I would be worried about is the Sunday departure of the Gem.....

Thanks for the link. Hopefully the track will enable them to stay well to the east of the storm path, but I imagine that they will still encounter some rough seas and possible high winds. I'd be concerned about both cruises.

The Dawn will be docked in Bermuda 12 hours before the storm reaches the Boston area (late Sunday evening). You have nothing to worry about besides rougher than normal seas. We skirted the east coast down to Nassau last year while a category 3 hurricane (Igor) was just east of Bermuda. We experienced 18 foot swells, but it didn't cause any problems with the cruise.

It's the Gem cruise out of NYC on Sunday afternoon which will have a problem. The storm will be moving fast at that point. I'm guessing they'll have a delayed departure after the storm passes. Unless there's major damage around the NYC area.

Best of luck to all cruisers this weekend. Bring your sea sickness remedies, and just enjoy your cruise.

The last time I was on the Dawn from NYC to Bahamas, we went through a summer nor'easter off the coast of the Carolina coast. We went through 20-35 foot swells and did not feel much. We had a great time minus the little rain.

My bags are packed, the house is secure, and the lawn furniture is in the shed. Lets get cruising.

First I all I hope for everyone who is looking forward to their cruises this wk end sail off to blue skies,

BUT if the seas r rocky.... hang out in the Casino, next to that Quarter machine,, ya know the one where u keep dumping money in and nothing ever falls???? IT sure does fall during a rocky cruise, and it's just not quarters that come out LOL....

the hard ships getting in and out will be those in NYC and NJ In my opinion, I think they will get into port Sat. Get everyone OFF and than go out and hang out away from the piers, Delay Sunday's departure till it calms down, and than speed up the boat some and get on their way to a Happy Cruise! (those are my thoughts on this) I'm surprised nothing has changed yet, since NYC is under a state of emergency and the tides the ocean water they are expecting to travel up the Hudson..They are already pulling ships and boats out to deeper waters, Away from all peirs.
