*OFFICIAL CC GROUP CRUISE*"Spirit of the 'Magic'al Dream" CARNIVAL MAGIC, FEB 26,2012

Good early morning SMDers. Time for the BCOD club to get started.

Vicki - I've been looking over alot of stuff for excursions on the Alaska cruise, but still have yet to come up with anything firm yet. I hear that it rains alot during the summer and I would hate to book something and have it rain us out. But then again, there is always the brewery tour in Juneau:D. This cruise to Alaska is suppose to be a CC group cruise, but I don't think that even 8 cabins have been booked and even fewer talk on the board. Still, we may end up having a small M&G with the group.

Did anyone notice that the Red Frog Pub is both inside and outside? Still can't wait to see that 101 oz beer:eek:.

OK, got to get back to work. I don't know why people come the the emergency room in the middle of the night for a cold:confused:. I'd rather be at home sleeping! Hope y'all have a great day.

The only excursion that we have booked is the Skagway White Pass Rail through Chilkoot Charters. We're taking the train up and a bus down so we see different scenery. In Juneau, I think we are just going to the Mendenhall Visitor Center on our own and possible the Mt. Roberts tramway. Ketchikan may be interesting...my ex-SIL is going to entertain us, I'm kind of scared of what she may have planned LOL. Although it's not technically a CC group, we have scheduled a M&G and are going to try to do a couple of other activities.

I can't wait to see the 101 oz beer & consume it! I thought this was funny on John Heald's FB:

"I was upset tonight. I had been asked to promote the ThirstyFrog Ale and so I did by giving it a big promotion at my travel talk and on the PA system. Problem was that it was so popular that they had run out the night before and no bugger had told me."

How the heck do they run out of their own beer???

Good evening SMDers. Back at the grind of work again tonight.

Vicki - run out of beer:eek:. I hope that doesn't happen while we are on board. I think that we will also do Mendenhall on our own since you can catch the bus at the end of the pier and don't have to use any tour company.

Rich, they still had beer, just not the "Magic" red ale,

Magic's first real trick, the beer disappeared

The first night, they pushed the Magics own brew...(Made for only this ship) well of course everyone wanted to try it.

She ran out the first night, and they were thinking of airlifting more to her.

Just the first of many kinks to be worked out before we get on board.

No Magic beer for me though...maybe I'll have a sip of yours, just to say I tried the Magic brew...

Vicki, and Rich...

I can tell you what we did in Alaska last Sept.

But it was spendy

We did the Deadliest Catch excursion (Ketchikan),

I think it was $150pp

If you do it, sit front row center bottom level.

Although you can move up and down and all around too.

That was fun...they were really good at making it fun too.

So I think it was worth the $$. not to mention it was the only thing Nick asked to do.

We did a bus trip (with the roll call group) in Skagway,

the diver was great and made it a great trip,

the views were wonderful,

and because we were on a private bus tour, he would try and stop if we asked,

but he knew all the best places to stop.

Vicki, I am glad you are at least doing the bus back, just for those reasons...

And in Juneau, we took a whale watching tour.

Again spendy, but when those Orca's (3) came right up next the the boat,

worth every penny.

Wish we would have seen a breech, but oh well.

We did see a sleeping whale and some tails,

just no big up and out of the water with a big splash :(

I kind of wanted to do the Deadliest Catch excursion but hubby really wanted the White Pass Rail and I'm too cheap to get two spendy excursions. Alaska is expensive...ughhh!

I am hoping to see some wildlife from the ship, keeping my fingers & toes crossed!

Good afternoon SMDers. Another nice day today.

Vicki - I have been doing some research on the Alaska cruise and found that while in Ketchikan we are going to go to Totem Bight State Park. They have alot of the totem poles there as well as people making them, a gift shop and other things. There is a bus (Blue line bus) that is suppose to be right near the dock and it only cost $1. They say that you need quarters since the bus doesn't take any bills. It takes you right to the park and there is no charge to enter the park. Then once we are done there we will take the bus back and tour the town. Carnival excursion cost $49.95pp, Rich's excursion cost $4 total for both of us. Now who's cheap:D?

Marie - I did see the Deadest Catch, but West is not interested so Totem Bight it is. I was thinking about one of the Panning for Gold places in Juneau, but then again we might just catch the bus to Mendenhall. We still have some time. And from the looks of the 101 oz beer, you will have to have more then just one sip! I will need some help with that one. lol

Where is everyone. Has any one heard from Bobbie lately?

Evening all! Alaska sounds fun, that's on my bucket list for sure. Just not sure if I want to do a cruise or a driving trip with a camper. Maybe when I retire. *sigh*

I'm not a beer drinker but I can see Don and Dave with that 101oz beer now! Maybe we better warn the ship to make sure they don't run out the week we're there!! LOL!!

We finally saw the sun today, but it is still cold, a freeze warning tonite. Sucks to have to run the furnace in May.

Don't work too hard tonite Rich!!

Hi everyone. Jim and I (we are former Mateys :)) are seriously looking to join all of you. I just can't sit still until we have another cruise booked! I honestly haven't had time to read all these posts, but have seen enough that there are some airport issues and transportation to the hotel/ship and the distance. Can someone explain it to me or tell me what post # that conversation begins? I'm guessing we would fly into Houston on SW, but we aren't sure about that yet. Is one airport closer than the other? Thanks for any advice you can give me!

Hello, and welcome to the SMDer's...Being a Matey makes you Family :p

From what I understand, SW goes into the airport closer to Galveston.

Hobbie I think it is called.

Rich, our leader is taking flight times and dates

and trying to match up groups of 10 for Shuttles to the hotel.

From Hobbie I think it is $100 for the shuttle,

or $10pp if 10 people all wait for each other.

say you are flying in on Sat. 2:00 and some one else is Coming in at 2:30

and maybe 5 others are coming in at 3:00.

if everyone wants to catch a shuttle together at say 4:00.

those landing first would have to wait a couple hours. but that would save you about $30 pp.

now that is a few DODs or T shirts :p

For us, we are flying in on Friday, and a few others are also.

(from the NW so we may all be on the same plane)

as it stands we have at least 5 and maybe 9.

We come into Bush int. and our shuttle is $140, so we will split that between our group.

We are staying an extra night at the Group Hotel Galvez...

Rich got us some great prices for that too.

Come along and join us, It is going to be a blast...

Thank you so much for information. I think SW would be the way we would fly, although I hate that they are always the last to extend their dates. I already emailed Johna for some prices for the cabin. I would just hate to be "on our own" with the transportation! Maybe it could all work out. Not a big deal to sit at the airport for a couple hours so a group could travel together. We had so much fun on the Matey's cruise, we don't want to miss out on this one!!

Hi everyone. I know I've been AWOL here but I do try to keep track of what everyone's been up to! I don't want to detract from the excitement for THIS Magical cruise, but I just wanted to let everyone know that I've already been in touch with Laura and Johna to see about heading up a Cruise Critic group cruise on the Brand New Carnival Breeze March 2-10. It will be an 8 day cruise (Saturday to the following Sunday) from Miami to St. Thomas, Antigua, Tortola and Nassau. Antigua and Tortola are two of my favorite ports and I was so excited to see that the Breeze will be going there! So...if anyone's interested please let me know! I"ll start a new CC thread as soon as I get more info! (and if anyone has any group name ideas please let me know!)

Good afternoon SMDers. Another nice day here in south Texas. If only we could get just alittle rain.

Joni - Welcome to you and Jim. Once you hear back from Johna and do book this cruise, please let us know. I think that Marie covered just about everything. Houston Hobbie is closer to Galveston and SW does fly into Hobbie. As Marie said that I'm trying to get as many together on one shuttle as to save everyone $$$. One way or another, we will get everyone to the hotel/port for this cruise. Hotel information is on the business page. Again, welcome and we really do hope y'all join us as this cruise is going to be a blast:D.

Madelene - count me in! I haven't talked with West yet, but I will let him know. Since I will be going, he most likely will too. Now that 2-10 is in 2013? Still waiting for Carnival is see if they are going to be cruising to Hawaii since the Spirit is relocating.

Marie - thanks for filling in Joni on all the transportation issues.

OK, off the get a bit to eat.

If your using SW, I believe you get into Hobby, which is closer to the Port. There are shuttle's to get closer to the port and with luck we are getting enough people together at the airport to cut costs, Rich has hotel information on the business page for that. Always good to get to area at least a day before cruise day. Some of us are getting there on Friday to start partying early.

Lori - did you show Don the 101oz beer tube that Vicki posted? That in it self should be enough to get him excited!

Chelle - yup, its Houston Hobby. I don't know why I was typing Hobbie:confused:

Just checking to see if anyone has gotten there air flights booked yet that plan on going into IAH on Feb 24th? Just keeping a record for the shuttle part of this trip, so if you are coming in on Friday and landing at IAH, email me or Rich your flight information so shuttles can be loaded.
