Docking at Crown Bay

We're just off the Disney Magic, which docked at the new pier at Crown Bay. There was also an HAL ship docked there with us. Crown Bay is a little further away than Havensight from town. It is located on the opposite end of Charlotte Amalie than Havensight. It was wonderful not to have to tender, but, as a warning to all, the only transportation available at the pier is the Safari type buses (converted pick-up trucks) and they make many, many stops along the way. We were put on a truck that was supposed to go to Coral World and to Red Hook only (which is where we wanted to go to catch the ferry to St. John). Our truck left the pier at 7:40 AM, which we thought gave us ample time to get to Red Hook for the 9:00 ferry. The truck stopped in downtown, in Havensight, at a beach I think was called Grand something or the other, at Coral World and finally got us to Red Hook at 9:15 AM. It was awful and very frustrating. We ended up not going to St. John, because we wouldn't have had much time there. We went to Sapphire Beach instead, which was beautiful, but very windy. As a point of reference. our return taxi ride from Sapphire Beach (which included a stop at Red Hook to drop off a couple of passengers) took a total of 30 minutes from the lobby at Sapphire Beach to the dock at Crown Bay.

the way to avoid that problem in the future or for others considering going to red hook is to take the safari type bus only to the downtown area and then let the driver know you want a different taxi that will take you directly to red hook. At the drop off point downtown they typically have a coordinator who is getting folks hooked up with taxis to various destinations. We did this in November with no problems.
