Sweetness Posted March 29, 2005 #1 Share Posted March 29, 2005 We are non-smokers and intend to go on a honeymoon cruise. My hubby is very sensitive to cigarette smoke. If I am not mistaken you are allowed to smoke on the outside deks, specified cigar lounges if applicable, and on one side of the room at the bars. Do the theatres allow it? or the nightclub/dancing type places? We can deal with outside and skip the cigar lounge but when you walk into the bars is it all smokey smelling? That would totally turn our appetites off (granted you don't consume your meals in the bar). Do your clothes end up smelling after a night in the bar? I am not as sensitive but my hubby wouldn't want to stay in a smokey bar, and I would still want to be getting drinks! I suppose the other option is taking our own drinks or buying them elsewhere on the ship for a bit more. Are there any lines that don't allow you to smoke inside the ship? Thanks, you guys are great :D

Thanks, you guys are great :D We sailed the Radiance last month and there was no smoking in any of the bars except the very back of the Colony Club. My DH is also very sensitive to smoke and he was quite pleased that common areas of the ship ( with the exception of the Colony Club and the Casino) were all non-smoking. I think the trend is to make as much of the common areas of the ship non-smoking. What ship are you sailing on?
wwinfl91 Posted March 29, 2005 #3 Share Posted March 29, 2005 More and more the major ship lines, those owned by RCI and Carnival, are restricting the areas that people can smoke. Since neither my wife or I smoke we appreciate this fact. One area you might run into smoke surprisingly is on your balcony if you have one. People go out on their balconies and puff away with both cigerettes and cigars and if they are upwind or towards the bow from your balcony the smoke blows back along the ship and you smell it especially if the balcony needs to you are smokers. As far as I could tell there isn't anything you can do about it. But other places in the interior of the ship you will mostly be smoke free. Have a great next cruise. PawsMa Posted March 30, 2005 #4 Share Posted March 30, 2005 I willl be cruising on the RCL Monarch in May with my niece. She can't handle smoke either. I called RCL and they are doing a deep cleaning of our cabin before we arrive. Including the curtains, rugs and bedspreads. There's no charge for the service. RCL said thay ask that cruisers not smoke in the cabins but some people don't listen.
Sweetness Posted March 30, 2005 Author #5 Share Posted March 30, 2005  thats a great idea PawsMa. That is perfect for my hubby. Thank you so much. Monarch was one of the ships we were considering especially if they do not charge! hehe. Thank you wwinfl91 too I didn't think of that before. Definately a bummer if you pay for a verandah. Happy ks Posted March 30, 2005 #6 Share Posted March 30, 2005 I'm extremely sensitive to any type of smoke, even from a candle or barbeque, it all gives me a sore throat and runny nose. I've only had a problem once on a cruise ship and I've never asked to have any special cleaning done. The one time it bothered me was when our neighbor smoked in his cabin, not much you can do about that. We just stayed away from our cabin more than usual, so we ended up having a good time around the ship a little more than normal. I figure out early on what areas of the ship are smoking and just stay away from there. It is mostly the casino and bars. Most ships have non-smoking sides at the pool area. If there is anyone smoking nearby, I just quietly leave, no need to give any opinions on it. Fortunately, the dining room and show lounges are completely non-smoking. The only thing I miss is having a nice cocktail lounge that is smoke free, but many ships are now providing one side of the lounge to be smoke free and using better ventilation for the smoking side. I think you will find that it isn't that much of a problem.
Phoenix cruiser Posted March 30, 2005 #7 Share Posted March 30, 2005 Oceana ships restrict smokers to only 2 small areas on their ships- and definitely no smoking in your room or on the balcony.

I agree, I hope this is the case :) hm Phoenix cruiser that would be great if I could manage to afford it! ... I'm 22, I have plenty of time ;) (and looking forward to every moment of it!) Phoenix cruiser Posted April 1, 2005 #9 Share Posted April 1, 2005 I am not an agent for Oceana- in fact if it weren't for your issue on smoke I would be urging you to try Cunard. However, some Oceana voyages are more affordable than one would think. Example, the November Lisbon to Miami starts at $999 including free airfare! Whatever you chose, enjoy the honeymoon! :D
Poppy9629 Posted April 1, 2005 #10 Share Posted April 1, 2005 I'm a first timer heading up to Alaska on Seven Seas Mariner and have the cabin directly above the smoking lounge. Has anyone had any problems with smoking odors in the cabins above the smoking lounges on any of the Radisson ships?
