Departure Security Checks

What kind of security checks are there at the terminal... x-ray your bags and walk through a metal detecter? Is the security about the same as airplanes? Do they have that random additional search and take your stuff apart and shoes off like at the airport?

 

Since 911 are has anyone noticed any additional security such as drug/bomb smelling dogs at departure ports? We will most likely be leaving from Los Angeles or San Diego.

No security checks upon departure at the ports.

A lot of the ports require you to show your photo id and perhaps your sign and sail card to have access to the ship. Most ships will x-ray your bags, etc as you board.

Some have scanners that you walk through and the small x-ray machine. Your big bags are put through x-ray machines that you do not see. Bring cameras as carry on.
