Diamond Princess 18-20 Drinking??

Recommended Posts

We are on the Diamond Princess this NYE and I am still not sure if we can sign a waiver for our 18yo Daughter to drink or not. She's not a big drinker, but she would love to be able to buy her own drinks.

Has anyone that has been on the Diamond confirm this for me.:)

Thanks

Nope no drinking for under 21 year olds on the Diamond Princess. You will be issued a cruise card of a special kind that identifies you as "under age" you wont be able to order drinks and they will not let others order for you...seems tough but that is the way it is..you cant gamble in the casino or play bingo either, well you can play bingo but an "adult" has to claim the prize for you :(

When we were on Rhapsody that was US onboard and we signed a waiver for daughter, there were 3 coloured cruise cards, 1 - under age (child) 1 - adult and 1 - 18-21yo and if you signed a waiver then there was a hole punched in card, so no hole, no drinkies..BUT they could gamble in casino etc... even if no waiver signed.....which I thought bit strange, they couldnt drink but they could gamble, sounded a bit irish to me.They said while cruising in Aus waters, Aus law etc...

So, I guess my question is why is Rhapsody (US on board) so different to Diamond (US onboard)

If this is correct I am glad my daughter not coming, she would be whining along with the others:p at least they will all be in the same boat (pardon the pun) all the 18-20yolds I mean.. Fiona :)

Thanks,

I should have checked earlier, but I kinda thought Princess would do the same a RC.

It's a bit disappointing for the 18 to 20 year olds. They can't go to the teen lounge, it is for 11 to 17 y/o, they can't go to any adult only venues. Doesn't leave much options for them.:(

I know its not the same ship, but a couple of yrs ago when we sailed on the Sun Princess, my brother who was then around 19 or 20 I think was allowed to drink. We were told that for cruises leaving from Australia or in Aust waters, you could drink and gamble at 18. Like I said, I don't know if this applies to the Diamond...perhaps give Princess a ring and ask?

Hi Patatie,

The Sun, Dawn, and Sea princess all have the legal drinking age of 18 because they are based here all year round.

I did ring Princess late this afternoon and they said because it was a US ship the diamond's legal drinking age is 21.

But like Fiona said, Royal Carribean is a US ship also and they allow for the drinking age when they are in our waters. Wonder if Princess loses business over this?

Where there's a will there's a way ;). She just won't be able to buy her own. I'm pretty sure it's across the board and even in the UK/Med they don't allow it either. She can go to the disco though, but not drink.

RCL do the waiver in places where 18 is legal. I doubt Princess give a toss or lose any business actually

I got the disco bit off their website. The drinking bit I know for sure as I was going through this 18-20 drinking bit last year when I was deciding on a cruise with the kids.

The lady at Princess has probably never stepped foot on a ship! :p

Not much you can do about it now....just don't tell her and let her sulk, until she finds the others her age all sulking......then they'll just hang in out in one of your cabins with rum runners

You right, she will get over it. at least being able to go in the disco will help.
