Pride of America questions

Hi everyone!

We have only been on one NCL cruise and it was a long time ago. We are looking at the Pride of America in order to see the different islands in Hawaii and after the cruise we will spend another week on one of the islands.

Is pizza available most of the day on POA? How is it? Where do you get it?

We are thinking about splurging on a suite since this is a 30th anniversary celebration. If we were to get a suite guarantee (I'm assuming they are available?), it's possible we would end up in an SI category, which is an obstructed view suite. Does this category have a balcony? In one description I read, it didn't say anything about a balcony; on another description I read it did mention a balcony.

Our other option is one of the aft balcony cabins (category B1). It looks like the ones on deck 10 are not private to the outdoor buffet above - is that true? Are the lower levels more private to the upper decks?

Thanks for any information any of you can give me!

Very seriously thinking about this ship for Hawaii. Elite with Princess and Platnum with RCCL, but never sailed with NCL

Also wondering about free pizza and free ice cream and do any of the inside or balcony cabins have sofa beds? Can you bring soda on board? Is a librarary on board, with all the ports though, I don't know about reading much.

Thanks

BellsRus & Debut; I think you will both truely enjoy all that the Hawaiian Islands have to offer. Yes on the free pizza, free ice cream, the sofa bed in the balcony's. If you check out the NCL web site it will give you a description of the balcony rooms, and just to be sure, once you have chosen your room, call & confirm that there is a sofa bed. They will be glad to help you. I have done POA 3 x's & am going back in Aug. of 2012. The days are not going by quick enough for me. Hawaii is truely a beautiful place to be. There is no bad place to be when it comes to the hawaiian Islands. Enjoy your trips. I'm going to

I forgot to add yes on the library, & you can get the pizza at the buffet or order it from room srevice (may or may not be a $5.00 charge) I think this is only on the Epic due to the size of the ship, but please don't shoot me if I'm wrong. Also due to everyone's different tastes, I think the pizza is good, It seems to disapear quickly, and there are many different types made. If you don't see what you want, just ask & I'm sure they'll make one for you.

They have pizza in the buffet which DH and I thought was very good. You can also get pizza from room service.

I doubt you'll be able to book a suite as a guarantee...the couple of times I've seen that option pop up, it's been a computer glitch.

We opted against a suite for our PoA cruise, figuring (correctly) that we'd be out of the room so much that it didn't make sense to spend the extra $. We did however spend the $$ on one of the aft-facing balcony cabins. The balconies are huge and the view to die for! We were in 9204 and found the balcony plenty private.

Debut, the balconies have a sofa bed, yes you can bring soda on board, and yes, there was a library.

HTH!

Thanks for the info! I just heard back from my TA. I can get a suite guarantee, but the SI suites do not have balconies. I've sent a reply to ask if we can guarantee a category SH or higher so that we'll definitely have a balcony. We are also still looking at the aft balcony cabins, too.

It looks like the aft balconies are partially covered - is that correct? We like to be able to get out of the sun sometimes.

Thanks!

Thank you for this thread! I just started thinking about this cruise last night and here's a new thread on the first page!

Is one side of the ship any better than the other for this cruise? We just came off an aft balcony on Princess and loved it but I may have to cheap out a bit on this one to squeeze it in the budget!

Are the balconies covered or exposed or partial? Same on all decks?

Are there, I haven't looked yet, menus posted that you know of? Are the room service menu's the same on all NCL ships?

I believe I saw that there was no casino on POA. I know they have to stop outside the USA to run one but thought there was a deal made somewhere. Do they have one or no?

Does POA have all the different restaurants that the other NCL ships have? Is the main dining room not worth it?

I will now search these too, but thought I would ask as well for current info.

Thanks again!

From the reading I've been doing, no, they do not have a casino on board POA.

Please let us know if you find out any of the answers! :)

I booked a B1, an aft balcony, just a couple of hours ago. We decided not to splurge for the suite this time. Two weeks in Hawaii (ship and land) will be expensive enough without throwing a suite into the mix...

In case anyone is wondering, I was able to get a quote from my TA for a suite guarantee for a category SH or higher, so that we would be safe from getting the SI category which has no balcony and is an obstructed view. I'm not sure why NCL made suites with obstructed views and no balcony - makes no sense to me...

Cubechick,

We have that AFT cabin reserved for our January 21, 2012 cruise! Is it fully covered or partial?...got any pics of it?

Looking forward to our first AFT cabin.....

Yes. Definitely partially covered. If you click on my blog, you'll find a link to my photos...

And here's my review of our great cruise, with pics!

Loved this cruise!

We were on the 11th deck, extra large balcony, right side of the ship (sorry don't know the proper term!) which was great for lava and Napli coast, we had a sofa bed in our cabin, 11th deck was great for buffett which is where we ate often, great choices. Plus we ate outside every meal! Coming from -10 degrees we wanted as much sun and warmth as we could get! Also pool on this same deck

There are two main dining rooms which were good. We did one specialty which was ok but this trip is so port intensive we just wanted a quick dinner then hang out on our balcony and hit the sack to rest up for the next day!

Sorry, never had the pizza but did have fresh fruit, breads and coffee room service each morning, always on time and great for the balcony!

No casino, my husband thought he would miss it but really no time to think about it!

Yes a library, but never used it nor did I read the books I brought, too busy!!!!

Great friendly crew, clean ship, really enjoyed it all!

Lattidues check in a breeze

Thought the bathroom had more room than the Pearl but the rest of the cabin seemed the same

Do go a few days early to help with jet lag, we stayed at Aston Circle, clean and close to beach and cheap compared to other places if all you need is room and parking, if you want pool and room service than look eslewhere

Be prepared, it will rain! Hey, it wasn't snow so we still had a blast!

We rented a car on each island and really felt this was the best for us

I bought before hand online frankomaps.com, great maps of each island with all kinds of ideas and this really helped us plan plus get around! You can buy them there but we really enjoyed planning before hand.

There is way too much to see in one trip, we tried to do it all and it took weeks for us to recover! So pick afew things that are a must for you and take the time to just relax and enjoy!

I think you made a wise decision...of course it's the same decision we made, LOL...:D Good to know about the GTY.

As to your question about the lack of balconies for some suites, NCL has found that the draw of the suite perks is enough for some folks even without the balcony. Not us though...gotta have the balcony!

What are the suite perks on NCL? We stayed in a mini-suite on Tahitian Princess for our 25th anniversary, but we've never been in a suite on any of our cruises.

If you count down two decks from the outdoor cafe (deck 11) that is deck 9

9704 is located 4th balcony in from the pier and yes it's partially covered
