Our son was 18 mo. at the time of our cruise in January. It is true that you have to be 3 to participate in the kids' program. However, as a parent, you can take your child into the Oceaneer Club and participate in any activities. We did this several times with Trevor and he really enjoyed it. You can pick up a schedule just inside the club each day and it will outline all of the activities and events for the day. Flounder's Nursery is available for childcare at the cost of $6 per hour if you would like to have some time without your little one. Flounder's is also open at various times throughout the cruise for you to take your child in to play. There is no charge for this, but you must stay with the child. If your child is not potty trained, also be aware that he/she will only be allowed in the water play area in one ear of the Mickey Pool. On our cruise, there was always a lifeguard present and if there was any sign of a child in a swim diaper in another part of the pool, they were promptly asked to be removed.

Hope this helps.

we took our 2 yo, when we went. and he had a blast! we took him onto the port with us, and did excursions with him. he wasn't potty trained yet, so he had his swim diapers on, and was just content with being in the mickey ear! they have a spray/splash water constantly running...(i guess to "flush out"?), and it was fun for him! there were maybe 4 other little ones in that mickey ear, including our DS2, and they all seemed to be enjoying themselves!

and our DS2 had a great time seeing all those characters! on the first night, we were just strolling around the ship, and we saw goofy walking by...heading into nursery reef, and you should've seen our DS2...screaming to goofy, "come back!!" it was so cute!

and yes, he can't go to the club, but when we dropped off our oldest DS4, we'd always just stick around a bit, so our DS2 had the opportunity to climb around the apparatus thing they had in the club...and just play around in the club a bit. he did go to the nursery reef 2x, (for palo dinner & brunch), and he seemed to enjoy being there.

there's a lot to do, as a family, and we did a lot of that, according to the navigator. oh, one thing our DS2 really enjoyed was dancing around on the stage (studio sea?) before the crowd got there! and we all love karaoke, so that was fun for him, as well! :)

My husband and I decided to wait until our youngest was out of diapers and didn't need a nap everyday before going. It was hard to wait but well worth it since we didn't need to worry about carrying anything with us or any other type of restrictions. We were on the magic last summer and our kids were 4 and 7. We wanted the youngest one to be old enough to actually remember the cruise since it costs an awful lot. They had a fabulous time and we have rebooked for November. It will only get better as they get older. My advice; if you can wait, do just that.
