travelling pair Posted September 20, 2011 #1 Share Posted September 20, 2011 We've just returned from our river cruise. AMA Waterways and the staff of the Amacello met and exceeded our expectations! We embarked September 3rd 2011 after spending 3 wonderful albeit very hot days in Budapest. Our Cruise Director was Balazs Kiss and he went above and beyond to make sure our trip was enjoyable including handling a couple of unexpected medical emergencies of passengers. Our cabins were comfortable, the food was excellent with many different choices either light breakfast and lunch in the lounge or full meals for all three in the dining room , they were presented beautifully, served hot and the wine choices for the most part were quite lovely. The fellow passengers a great group of folks from mostly Canada and US with a smattering of Brits ,Aussies and South Americans. The port destinations and excursions were enjoyable and so well organized. The walking was easy and all trips were divided into fast, regular and slow walking groups. Some required buses to get to the destinations and they were so well organized that there was no confusion of when and where to meet them for the return trip. The bicycle trips which we didn't use seemed to be a real hit among those who rode them. All of the guides were knowledgeable and made history come alive. Needless to say the cruising part sitting on the top deck or in the comfortable lounge watching the wonderful scenery go by was so great. One of the most pleasant surprises was the quality of the on board entertainment . There were many evenings when we were entertained by singers, musicians, dancers all native to the port we were in and even a glass blower who's show was really a hit. I won't go into each port of call just to say that there wasn't one we would have missed. We would definetely sail with AMA again. If anyone has questions I would be glad to respond. bphman Posted September 20, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 20, 2011 This was my same experience on the Amalyra. We were truly impressed with the hands-on service and no detail left unfinished. Would definitely sail with them again without reservation. Whether on the ship or the land extensions, Ama went above and beyond our expectations. SOme have had different experiences but we were impressed.
