Sleep Inn (FLL) to the beach

Simple question I hope.

 

How easy is it to get from the Sleep Inn in FLL to the beach and how far is it:

 

1. walking with kids (with small strollers)

2. via public transit?

It's just short of a mile and a half straight down Sheridan to the beach. There are sidewalks. In looking at this map of the Broward transit system, it looks like the number 12 bus goes right down Sheridan to the beach. The hotel is just north of Sheridan at SE 5th Ave. It doesn't look like a very frequent route (approx every 45 minutes weekday, and hourly weekends)
