remharri Posted September 25, 2011 #1 Share Posted September 25, 2011 Hello all! Do you all know if we can buy tickets in Placa Catalunya? If so, where is it at exactly? Thanks in advance!
TERRIER1 Posted September 25, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 25, 2011 We purchased our tickets at the rai station Plaza Espana where you pick up the train to Montserrat. They have people there to help you chose the correct ticket and to direct you. You can take the Metro from Plaza catalunya to Plaza Espans and then switch to the rail. remharri Posted September 25, 2011 Author #3 Share Posted September 25, 2011 Thanks for the info. I knew we could get them there but we aren't going to that station until we do Montserrat. But I thought I heard of a place in Placa Cataulyna. Thats close to where we will be staying.
trabeler Posted September 25, 2011 #4 Share Posted September 25, 2011 When we were last there, I tried to find the place in Placa Catalunya but it was closed when we went by. Hopefully you'll have better luck (I think it was a Sunday). We ended up buying the tickets from the machines at the train station where you board the train to Montserrat. If you plan to use the machines, either be sure your credit card has a PIN for foreign use or bring cash.

trabeler Posted September 26, 2011 #10 Share Posted September 26, 2011 Go on the early train. I think there is one about 7:40am/ A strong second to this proposal if you have no issues with getting going early. We took the first train that would connect with the rack rail (it was around 7:40 am or so on a Monday). That early in the morning, there weren't any helpers at the train station to assist with buying tickets from the kiosk, but the machine was self-explanatory, particularly if you've done your homework in advance and know which package ticket you want. By getting there on the first train, we pretty much had the place to ourselves for at least a half hour. There was no line at all to see the Black Madonna... we were able to spend as much time as we wanted in front of the statue. Within a few hours, there was quite a long line so be sure to see the statue first.

Now it's time to see if the rest of the group wants to be early risers or not! I know I do! The less crowds the better, thats for sure!
cruisinskier Posted September 27, 2011 #13 Share Posted September 27, 2011 Please be aware there are 2 different tickets sold to get up to Montserrat. One is to go up by cable car and one is by funicular. Depending upon which one you purchase, you get off the train at different stations. They seem to default to the funicular unless you ask for the cable car tickets. We specifically asked for the cable car tickets however there were lots of people who go toff the train at our station who had the funicular tickets and were turned away access to get up to Montserrat. They either had to purchase another ticket or wait for the next train to go to the next station to get the funicular. Sorry if this is confusing but be aware there are different options which impact which station you get off the train.
