Best Piano Entertainer on Carnival? (Part 2)

On the previous post they said we would not be happy with Brad. We just got off the Valor with Brad Alexander and he was fantastic!!! John & Priscilla

I think what the previous poster was saying is that compared to Brad, who we had last year on the Liberty, the guy we have performing in the PB on the Glory, Peter brenner, will be a let down for us. I have to say that every review I have read of him over the years has been less than stellar.

That being said, talent is all subjective, and i am a firm believer in a cruise being what you make of it, so we will give him a fair shot. There are plenry of other places to be entertained while on board (jazz bar, ect...)

Brad set the bar pretty high for us...:)

We will be on the Valor July 21, would love to know who will be in the Piano Bar. When we were on the Dream last April, the guy that was playing was not good at all. Don't even remember his name. There was hardly ever anyone in there!

I just got word from John Heald.

Barry Miller is on Conquest now.

Any one know anything about him?

Edit, did find this you tube self promotion...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdIXOZCCk4c

Barry Miller is phenominal. We had him on Inspiration about 4 years ago and he absolutely was the reason we had one of the best times ever. He is extrodinarily funny and doesn't just play boring piano bar music. He has you limbo, cubin shuffle, electric slide, you name it. We were all dancing out in the lobby and inside the bar. We shut the place down every night it was so much fun. In fact, we did not do another show the whole week because were having so much fun with Barry. On his night off, our same group hung on the lido deck for the mexican party and Barry and his GF Janet hung with us there as well. It was an outrageous blast. I wish he were going to be on Legend with us this June.

That is what I meant, Brad (which he says is the greatest name ever, and who am I to disagreee? LOL)

I sailed with Peter Feb 09, and it was 8 days of utter disappointment. The PB was near empty most all nights.

So, once you have something to compare to, ie: Brad, Ron, Vince, Jason, James, Josh, et al, Peter will be a letdown.

IMO, Peter B and Sean Laws are the least entertaining in the fleet now.

I would always give the benefit of the doubt though, any one can improve, it's simply a matter of if they do

Which is even more disheartening as Carnival continues to cut back on their other live entertainment venues.

Hello folks, back from the Bloggers Cruise on the Magic. As I see was posted earlier, I did get the names for the Glory and Conquest. But I only had the minutes (and sobriety) to post it on the Barbarians page, thanks Buggystuff for posting it on here. So here is the updated list, and thanks to those of you whom I met on this cruise for your kind words about the effort that goes into this list. Also John Heald will be posting the schedule on his blog soon, so we will have end dates for those we don't have yet. As a general rule, the office is trying to fill the bars with 6 month contracts (although there will be exceptions to that rule).

Thanks again Laura for all you do to keep the list up to date. Was great to meet you last week. Wish we were still there w/ Ron in the piano bar. :(

If you are going on the Fascination, make sure to drop into Club 88 and listen to Milburn Dumas. Very Entertaining. He gets the entire crowd involved and singing along.

We just got off of Fascination and spent each of the four nights at the Piano Bar. A fun time each night and one of the highlights of a great cruise.

Thanks for your thoughts on Peter B. and the piano bar. i figure we will give him a shot the first night and if he does suck, at least that will be the push for us to explore other venues of entertainment on the ship that we may not have normally gone to (the jazz bar, atrium bar, etc...).

If you don't mind me asking, what was it about him specifically that makes him one of the least favorable. Is it personality, talent, does he not engage with the audience, poor song selection, etc. I guess we got spoiled by Brad. He was just so much fun!!!

Can anyone make a comment about Steven Laws who is on the Freedom?

That is "Sean" Laws

And, was on the Freedom Feb 25 with him

He is quite talented in his own right, but very S L O W playing

Not many "sing alongs"

I would count him as the quintessential "lounge act", but not what Carnival folks are expecting

With encouragement, he may get better

Suggest "8 beats to the bar" LOL

He doesn't do well with requests, he seldom smiles, he "oversings" in a melodramatic way, audience doesn't appeal to him, he doesn't interact with questions, requests, suggestions, he doesn't act like he enjoys what he is doing...

shall I go on?

The piano bar on the Freedom had at the "most" 8 people in it every night, I checked...

Hey Brad,

The official roster has him listed as Steven Laws, did he list as "Sean" in the Capers? I suppose that would be his stage name. I just want to be thorough!

You should have come on the Magic with us!

Thanks,

Laura

Just off the Conquest here.

Barry Miller is very engaging and interacts with the crowd. He kept the room rocking every night.

If you are looking for someone to sit at the piano, play and sing all night. Dont Go! He will take a break from the keyboard and play other music while standing up and interacting with the guests and doing games and contests type things. This was a spring break cruise, and he kept the house excited and moving every night.

Thanks. The website link doesn't work for some reason. Anyone know of him?

Brad is AWESOME. We had him on the Liberty last March and he was great. Very fun and entertaining and as the night passes, he has some very amusing songs he sings. It's a really fun time!

In regards to Peter Brenner:

Oh goodness...well that just sucks. Why does Carnival keep players like that? Piano bars are supposed to be fun! :) I saw a video of him singing "Maybe I'm Amazed" on YourTube and I wasn't very impressed. He sort of reminded me of a low rent Neil Diamond....and I like Neil Diamond.

Thanks for letting us know and like I said, I'll give him a chance but at least I'll be able to try more places without feeling like I was missing out.

Oh believe me I was envious! I'm sure it was a cruise for the record books!

Sean introduced himself as "Sean", that's all I can tell ya

Might be stage name, might be typo

Can I please get the scope on Seth Gibson? Thank you so much for your time.

Seth is great! I saw him last month on the Inspiration. I have to say, I'm a big Barry Miller fan, and I've yet to find someone that I like as well. Well, Seth has won me over! Not only is he talented, he's pretty darn cute too!;) I spent every night in the piano bar until closing.

BTW...if you search Seth Gibson on YouTube, you will find several clips of him.
